Created in 2010 to boost the academic preparation and retention of first-generation college students, PRESS works with these students to build critical thinking, creative writing, and time-management skills. Along with receiving academic advising, selected students participate in workshops, group projects, and an integrated curriculum designed to increase both their academic success and satisfaction.

PRESS's Take a Kid to College component provides high-school students—particularly those who may not have thought of college as a possibility—with an opportunity to experience college life. After a day attending classes with a peer mentor and meeting faculty and staff, the students can learn more about the college-application and preparation process.

Timeless Moments Photographic Art's photographers stand out thanks to the uncommon amenities they provide at photo shoots. Among these are kid-friendly photo-shoot themes, such as A Day in the Country or Un Jour A Paris, which have whimsical set pieces, props, and backgrounds. The photographers also travel to noted local sites for on-location shoots, aiming their lenses at subjects framed by Fort Story or Norfolk Botanical Garden and lit by natural light. To avoid interruptions from feral casting directors, subjects can hold shoots in a private park or in their own home.

For Lisa Keeney, the inspiration to become a photographer came from a very personal place: her children. The young mother couldn't help but capture her kids' development through each stage of their lives, and found herself making monthly treks to corporate photo studios. When she realized that the images and customer-service experiences that resulted didn’t make the time and cost worth it, she dusted off her old camera, brushed up on her high-school photography lessons, and got to work. What came out was hardly amateur: vivid, light-soaked images of gazing toddlers, slumbering infants, and smiling families.

Today, Lisa's four children motivate her—and prepare her for calming rambunctious subjects—during portrait sessions, which can chronicle kids from birth to their senior years of high school, or capture entire families. Before all shoots, she consults with clients to customize sessions, whether they choose to pose amid the controlled conditions of Lisa's professional studio or inside a favorite linen closet during onsite appointments.
