Named both for the bakery's 21 flavors and as a nod to the owners' son, who has Down syndrome—a disorder stemming from an extra copy of the 21st chromosome—TwentyOne Cakes crafts confections of every size within its sky-and-toffee-hued café. The lineup of seasonal flavors, such as german chocolate, gingerbread, and maple bacon, takes on colorful frosting and chatty personalities as it transforms into full cakes, three sizes of cupcakes, and bite-size cake balls. The eatery's brigade of tables mingles with a pair of comfy armchairs to give patrons respite during sugar comas, and free WiFi keeps brains busy in between sips of coffee or tea. As part of the company's mission to bring acceptance and awareness of individuals with Down syndrome, 10 percent of each purchase at TwentyOne Cakes goes to benefit Down Syndrome Group of the Ozarks.

The spot's friendly baristas also brew single-origin coffees, blend smoothies, and concoct specialty lattes and mochas. Aboriginal-influenced decor lends the coffeehouse a funky, relaxed ambiance, and musicians fill the space with their melodies during open-mic nights.

On the inside of Tahyani and Alexis Perdomo's cakes, there are really no surprises: locally sourced eggs, flour, sugar, and butter come together to form fresh, made-from-scratch treats. On the outside, though, those same cakes are anything but ordinary, as they sport three-dimensional designs that range from popular cartoons to small-scale football stadiums. The idea came to Tahyani and Alexis in 2008 after they were unable to find the perfect Finding Nemo?themed cake for their son's party. After trying to grow the dessert by planting birthday candles in their garden, they finally decided to make their own in the kitchen. They're fun and realistic design earned them glowing reviews from the parents in attendance, persuading them to start their own business. Today, the batter-sculpting duo dispatches 100% personalized cake products across the Ozarks for any occasion, crafting custom designs such as beer kegs, planets, or characters from movies and 19th-century Harlequin romance novels.

Creative customization is key at Yogurtini, where a rotating cast of frozen-yogurt flavors meets a large list of toppings to create personalized self-serve desserts. Each day, frozen-yogurt flavors such as classic tart, cookies and cream, and red velvet are culled from a sprawling list and presented for customer consumption, with vegan and gluten-free options available. After customers fill their chalices or shirt pockets with yogurt, they can amble over to the topping bar, which showcases more than 65 choices including popular candies, cookies, and fruits. Once their dessert is complete, customers can relax in one of several sea-foam-green chairs or transfer their treat into a vacuum-insulated, stainless-steel to-go container.
