Before Lisa Tolossa took over the reins of her beauty center and renamed it Doo It Up Salon, she was an employee for the previous owner. In the five years before she purchased the business, she perfected her skills as a hairstylist by learning Redken and Schwarzkopf coloring methods, studying Framesi cutting techniques, and earning certifications from Brazilian Blowout, Cadiveu, Keratin Complex, and Joico.
Today, Tolossa captains a roster of stylists who primp clients at the salon’s nine hair stations, one nail station, and two private rooms. Amidst deep-purple accents, corrugated-metal walls, and Craftsman tool chests filled with beauty supplies, the multitalented staff - including nail technician and mani-pedi expert Lynne Ho - crafts new looks with an array of services for nails, hair, and skin. They also sell products by Eufora, Moroccanoil, Brazilian Blowout, and American Crew, which can be used to style coiffures or lubricate a squeaky robotic arm.
Aly Ramirez sees the artistry in styling hair, and combines creative savvy with technical talent to craft haircuts that flatter her clients. Besides cuts, the experienced stylist can sculpt hair into elegant updos, change up looks with highlights and all-over color, and add length and volume with extensions. She also offers facial waxing services and provides makeup applications.
Operating out of Definitions Salon & Spa, stylist Riley Elrod commands the loyalty of her clients through the deft manipulation of everything from shears to coloring products. Of course, she doesn't revamp hair alone; she's aided by Definitions' well-stock selection of styling accoutrements, including potions from trusted names such as Keune, Kenra, and Wella.
Light floods the salon space through a large overhead skylight, casting natural glow on leather furniture, lush potted plants, and floor tiles the color of white chocolate. Amid these elegant accents, skilled stylist Jimie Aguilar highlights bland strands and sculpts cuts to each client's personality and facial features. Alexander's 10,000-square-foot space also features other beautifying services such as nail shaping, waxing, and facial peels to renovate the complexion.
East Grand Beauty Bar welcomes everybody?women, men, and kids?to the upscale environment of their Corona salon. There, talented stylists expertly beautify clients' locks with haircuts as well as coloring and smoothing treatments. Beard trims and other barber services pamper male clients, while kids can get glam with a junior haircut.
Ace of Blades has sharpened old-style barber methods for a modern menu of men's haircuts, straight-razor shaves, and subtle hair coloring. While a skilled stylist cultivates a face-framing style, clients can catch a game on the shop's flat-screen TV, or peruse the wall photos of James Dean smoking a cigarette while knitting a holiday sweater.
