During the 1991 World Championships in Athletics in Tokyo, Mike Powell soared through the air to cover a distance of 29 feet, 4.5 inches. Not only did that distance narrowly top the mark of track legend Carl Lewis, it also set a world record for the long jump?a record that stands to this day.
Now coaching, Mike shares the secrets and techniques that made him a two-time Silver medalist at the Olympics. He teaches the next generation of jumpers?who range from beginners to world-class athletes?at the Academy of Speed, a massive facility outfitted with straightaway tracks, turf fields, and a 6,000-square-foot weight room. The world-class training equipment and Mike's wisdom are used to teach athletes from all sports how to run faster and jump higher, which are both useful when competing or trying to snatch the cookie jar from the top shelf of the cupboard.
Upland Sports Arena's 70,000-square-foot indoor complex ensures games go on in any weather on the facility's four synthetic grass fields. Kids take to the turf in youth leagues and the Lil Kickers program, which teaches children as young as 18 months basic soccer skills like which feet to put cleats on. Adults also hit the fields for co-ed dodgeball and soccer leagues, frequenting the on-site sports bar to unwind and celebrate victories with a beer and a bite.
The Upland Arena Indoor Sports Complex allows athletes to play without fear of rain, sunburn, or mosquito bites. The indoor center's four TigerTurf synthetic grass fields host kids' and adult soccer leagues, as well as adult dodgeball programs. After games, fans and players can mingle at the bar and grill, which serves pub fare such as nachos, wings, and flatbread pizza. The restaurant's also an Official U.S. Soccer Bar, airing all U.S. soccer men's games.

The center's training principles are built upon holistic health awareness, the fundamentals of nutrition, and metabolic conditioning. Alongside an excellent supporting staff, the team curates a curriculum of group training classes, personal-training sessions, nutrition consultations, and holistic life coaching.
HDX Fit also offers an online training program, a portal full of videos and written workouts for people who can?t make it to classes because their motorized unicycles are out of gas. The online program includes a weekly telephone chat with one of the gym?s trainers, who speaks to the philosophy of the center's inspirational founder.
“We believe that every child is a champion.” This mission statement informs the approach that Cal Elite Kids takes with the participants of its programs. Youngsters may learn self-reliance in gymnastics lessons, which take place on an in-ground tumble-track trampoline, on an array of beams and bars, or in the air above an in-ground foam pit. They also develop discipline in dance class; at the Rancho Santa Margarita facility, the five dance studios inspire with views of the surrounding mountains.
Cal Elite Kids’ charges can even learn how to express themselves through athletic theatrical performances or simply improve their 2 a.m. Friday-night karaoke warblings during Glee Elite sessions.
