The YMCA of Greater Omaha brings people together at 10 locations with character-building programs that strengthen participants' involvement in their community. Adults can get a head start on their New Year's fitness resolutions with body sculpting, Pilates, and other tummy-toning group fitness classes, while kids can expend some energy at a drop-in child-care center that is free while parents work out. YMCA members also enjoy reduced rates on swim lessons and youth sports, as well as free senior programs. All locations except the LaFern Williams Y offer indoor pools for aquatic antics that cannot be properly enjoyed in a bathtub's limited splashing-real estate.
Growing up in Las Vegas, Dr. Raymond Frye found himself drawn to bling at a young age. After training in general dentistry in Oregon, he decided to return to that youthful love of all things sparkly by imbuing his clients' teeth with an otherworldly glimmer. To that end, he created Bling Dental Products and launched a series of cosmetic-dental products such as the in-home Icing teeth-whitening kit, the Diamond ultrasonic toothbrush with UV sanitizer, and Shazzam teeth-whitening strips. Embarking on several projects, such as his pro-bono work in Brazil, Dr. Raymond's creations form an arsenal against dullness that aided in the gifting suite at the 2012 Academy Awards and help non-celebrity clientele flash a smile to gain entry to exclusive clubs and temporarily blind bouncers at movie-award ceremonies.
Led by more than 1,000 wellness experts at locations in Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, and Tennessee, the more than 30,000 members of Prairie Life Fitness have discovered why the company slogan is "Fitness for the Entire Family." The certified trainers and instructors cater to exercisers of various ages and abilities, all within an upscale, welcoming atmosphere. Kids take advantage of engaging childcare activities and youth programs, including swimming lessons, martial arts, and story time. Meanwhile, parents can workout on the latest equipment, including stationary cycles and Pilates machines. Guests can also relax with amenities such as massage therapy, tanning beds, and a whirlpool powered by wholesale bags of Pop Rocks.
In pools heated to a comfortable 90 degrees, Aqua-Tots' experienced instructors pass their aquatic knowledge on to younger generations. Before taking to the water, the team sorts prospective swimmers between the ages of 6 months and 12 years into one of eight swim levels along with similarly skilled and aged peers. Instructors work alongside the parents of infants and toddlers to practice water-safety skills and other swimming fundamentals such as blowing bubbles and singing whale songs. More advanced swimmers, meanwhile, master different strokes and techniques, and instructors incorporate more advanced concepts as their students progress through the levels. Parents can rest assured that their children are in good hands—each Aqua-Tots instructor has completed 32 hours in the company's Lessons for Life training program and a rigorous water-safety instructor exam.
In addition to swimming lessons, Aqua-Tots offers a number of other programs, including an Adaptive Aquatics program that features water-therapy sessions designed for children with special needs. It also donates a portion of its proceeds to World Vision, a nonprofit organization that helps children and families worldwide gain access to such necessities as clean water, food, medical supplies, and education.
When was the last time you performed a walking lunge with a pumpkin instead of a medicine ball? Or took a cycling class with an '80s-era pop star? On Halloween of 2012, Pinnacle Fitness Club was filled with unusual props and colorful characters—and not just the typical athletic equipment or energetic personal trainers. The gym encouraged members to wear costumes to their workouts, resulting in classes filled with faux surgeons and familiar Dr. Seuss figures.
It may only happen once a year, but the lighthearted spirit of the club’s October 31st festivities embodies its continually down-to-earth, friendly environment. It offers amenities such as new cardio and weight-training equipment and a 25-yard lap pool to encourage patrons on their journies toward better health. After their workout, guests can head to the jacuzzi to unwind.
