The expert fitness instructors at Sweat Fitness's Philadelphia-area locations help students of all ages and fitness levels track down svelter silhouettes with Precor training equipment and fat-roasting classes—including yoga, Pilates, spinning, Zumba, and kickboxing. Committed to fostering a supportive community for all fit seekers, the trainers devote individual attention to each patron to help them meet their fitness goals. Clients first undergo a body-fat analysis to assess their preworkout fitness level and to help them gauge their progress throughout their journey. During group sweat sessions, patrons can tone their bodies in classes such as Group Power and Power Pump, which blast subdermal meat suits via squats, lunges, and curls. A full aquatics center welcomes guests to dive into relatively narwhal-free waters for swimming lessons, triathlon training, and pool parties.
It all started with a farmer's generosity. In 1924, a civic-minded citizen handed over 16 acres of lush farmland and a small group of critters to the Borough of Norristown. Today, the Elmwood Park Zoo and the Norristown Zoological Society welcomes guests in hopes of creating a future stock of wildlife lovers and conservation advocates. A menagerie of around 300 beasts indigenous to the Americas—including jaguars, howler monkeys, timberwolves, and bald and gold eagles—peer back at visitors. Even though they're from Africa, giraffes get in on the fun too during certain seasons, grazing on foliage and the toupees of particularly tall patrons. Guests can also spy on more than 15 species that are threatened or endangered. All the while, smaller animals mosey around at the petting barn, tots climb aboard gentle ponies, and winged beauties sail through the air at the butterfly preserve.
Earning a rating of 46.4/50 skulls on HauntWorld, LuLu’s House of Horrors’ live cast of sinister denizens sends chills down voyagers’ spines as they move through woods, a haunted house, and a creepy cornfield. Hoary rays of moonlight peak through the tree line as guests begin their paranormal journey by boarding a wagon that takes them creakily through the forest, halted periodically by shadowy wayfarers and undertakers who need their hearse’s battery jumped. The wagon drops the group off at a cemetery, where they tiptoe over restless graves before arriving at the doorstep to a haunted house with hair-raising ghouls at every turn. Once they have passed through the depraved domicile, guests step aboard the wagon again, which winds through another forest and lets patrons off at the entry to a haunted corn maze, their leafy escape route to salvation.
The staff at both Born to Run locations know firstfoot what’s important in a good running shoe. Every Wednesday and Thursday morning before opening up shop, they slip on their footwear of choice and lead group runs. They share their passion for running and their knowledge of quality footwear with the marathoners, joggers, and walkers that amble through their doors. They pride themselves on having something for everybody, including minimalist, cross-trainer, and high-cushioned shoes from trusted brands such as Saucony, Adidas, Nike, and Brooks. In addition to equipping athletes with a wardrobe of reflective vests, sports bras, and Under Armour wear, Born to Run enhances daily runs with a host of accessories, such as GPS watches for mapping out jogging routes or remembering where you parked the hovercraft.
