Bay Meadow Farm's combined 110 acres of idyllic, verdant pasture and facilities give range to hale school horses equally suited to riding rookies and saddle specialists. Aspiring equestrians first receive a primer on horse anatomy, breeds, colors, and markings, learning to identify a three-stocking chestnut with a blaze or a silver dapple with vestigial shoulder nubs from ancient pegasi ancestors. After mastering proper grooming and saddling techniques, pupils will practice riding skills while learning to safely lead, mount, and dismount their four-legged companions. The farm’s environs span a riverbank pavilion and nearby deciduous forest, with plentiful long-stemmed grasses enabling famished riders to graze to their hearts’ content.

James Run Equestrian Center cofounders Sandrine Goble and Rachael North bring with them more than four decades of equestrian experience as well as championships on the French, American, and World circuits. Instead of carrying on an international rivalry that might’ve ended in a no-holds-barred underground jousting tournament, they decided to combine their talents and open an equestrian center. Sprawling across more than 40 acres of sylvan countryside, James Run Equestrian Center welcomes riders with a large indoor arena, an outdoor riding area, many miles of riding trail, and a training track. Sandrine and Rachael use the extensive facility to pass on their English-riding expertise to budding equestrians during 60-minute lessons, where they nurture young talents while focusing on the areas of eventing, jumping, and dressage.

Hugh the Maze Master and the team at Maize Quest Fun Park believes that mazes are a great metaphor for life: we?re all on a journey, sometimes we feel lost, but, through it all, we persist in the face of defeat. For the last 15 years, Maize Quest has followed this philosophy, evolving from a single-attraction corn maze to a full-scale seasonal fun park with more than 25 attractions. The maze?s theme changes each year, with past labyrinths honoring Wild West gunslingers, Egyptian pharaohs, and prehistoric dinosaurs.

Before or after navigating the corn-walled corridors, visitors can entertain themselves at other stations such as the bamboo forest or the cow train?a line of cow-themed cars pulled by a tractor or a team of steam-powered steers. Maize Quest holds birthday parties year-round, with groups blowing out candles in both the indoor party room and outdoor event space. The maze is also open for events for large groups such as scout troops, youth groups, and vacationing scarecrows.

Hunting Ground Farm's 68 acres of rolling hills resound with pounding hooves and instructors' directions during group lessons. Skilled in coaching various levels of budding and experienced equestrians, instructors pair their protégés with horses or ponies based on their appetite for oats and hay. In lessons lasting for up to an hour, coaches aquatint students with horse-riding basics and teach them how to mount and maneuver on their four-legged steeds. The staff limits each lesson to four riders, enabling teachers to keep an eye on their posse and discourage interruptions from recruiting Robin Hoods. Hunting Ground Farm doesn't offer lessons on weekends due to an extensive schedule of horse shows with local and state associations.
