Upon stepping into Pur Salon & Day Spa, visitors are ushered into a draped waiting lounge. There, they can sip beverages from the wet bar or cruise free WiFi. This is the first indication of Pur Salon & Day Spa’s mission to provide a pampering refuge for their clients. Beyond the waiting room, aestheticians specialize in nourishing spa treatments, wrapping skin in seaweed and soothing muscles with six varieties of massage. Additionally, Pur Salon & Day Spa’s stylists furnish clients dozens of hair services—they brighten tresses with hair color. They enhance Morse code blinks with individually applied eyelashes. And they whisk away unwanted fuzz from head to toe with gentle waxing services.
At Visage Skincare Spa and Cosmetic Laser Center, a highly trained staff cultivates beauty and wellness with relaxation services and anti-aging treatments. Part med spa and part day spa, the facility teems with massage therapists who knead away muscle tension, paramedical aestheticians who tighten skin with Thermage treatments, and board-certified nurse practitioners who inject FDA-approved wrinkle smoothers such as Botox and Juvéderm. More high-tech than a horse-drawn spaceship, a Visia imaging system guides complexion analyses, measuring sun damage and hyperpigmentation to help technicians build custom skincare plans. The spa also doubles as a party destination, where revelers can indulge in champagne and hors d’oeuvres between facials and massages.
Amid the pale-blue walls of Vella Salon and Spa—formerly Cuts R Us—professional stylists revamp hair, and a staff of spa technicians tends to bodies. Soon after guests settle into the salon’s comfy black chairs and consult with their stylist, shears begin to clip away at split ends, and streaks of color begin to flash across scalps. On the other side of the salon, nail technicians apply glossy acrylics and tend to feet with massages. In private rooms, waxing treatments remove fuzz from legs and mustaches glued to upper lips.
The licensed epidermis professionals at The Spa 4 Skin challenge blemishes, wrinkles, and unwanted hair with a full array of laser systems, technology-based therapies, and custom facials. They perform skincare therapies such as clay masks, microdermabrasion, and DermaMax and DiamondTome resurfacing treatments, which rejuvenate visages and can slough off the tomato residue caked on from standup performances. Besides face-focused treatments, the professionals cater to bodies with the soothing, nutrient-rich misting of DermaLife spa jet and Swedish or deep-tissue massage. In addtion, unwanted follicles are disabled during laser hair removal.
For the past decade, licensed massage therapist Jodi Werner Ramoska has sharpened her skills at various local spas in the area. She now harnesses that experience as the head of Massage Source, where she offers a curated menu of treatments that include Swedish, reflexology, and medical massage. For any massage, there are optional add-ons, too: the therapeutic scents of aromatherapy; the hot stone therapy, which helps to further relax muscles; and a peppermint sinus treatment, which helps clears out sinuses and makes everything smell like Christmas.
More than 30 years after its inception, Cactus Salon & Spa and its team of continually educated stylists have not lost their edge—they earned the Long Island Press's designation as Best Hair Salon and Best Day Spa in 2012. It's not surprising, then, that the salon has enjoyed such impressive growth over the years, with more than two dozen separate spa and salon locations.
Although hair is still the focus—stylists craft 'dos that reflect everyday ease or fashion-forward thinking—the repertoire has expanded to include everything from nail treatments and massages to permanent cosmetics and laser services. Since the roster is so broad, many clients take advantage of Cactus Club memberships, which give them the flexibility to try multiple services and products by deactivating the force fields between treatment rooms and granting a 33% discount on Sunday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
