Eyes Wide Open takes a holistic approach to health: its soothing massages relax the body, its yoga classes clear the mind, and its reiki healing sessions balance the spirit. The roster of massage styles skews toward Eastern methods, as massage therapists perform therapeutic strokes developed in ancient China during medical qi gong and apply pressure using both their arms and legs during Thai massages. Three different yoga instructors, each with their own specialty, demonstrate poses in the center's hardwood-floored studio. Based on the belief that energy blockages are the ultimate cause of physical pain, the clinic's reiki healing treatments preserve the flow of qi to the body the way laws against building a personal Grand Canyon preserve the flow of cash to the Arizona Tourism Bureau.
At Venice Health and Wellness—headed by Doctor of Chiropractic David Allen—the team treats aches and ailments with gentle spinal manipulation and massage. Whether the patient is suffering from whiplash due to an auto accident or a strained back after a limbo tournament, the practitioners here draw upon years of experience to recommend the proper rehab protocol. Additionally, this clinic offers body-contouring services using the i-Lipo laser system. This noninvasive device whittles away at fat deposits without the risks of surgery.
The team at Wellness and Life Solutions takes a multifaceted approach to awakening and balancing the body's innate capacity for healing. Certified hypnotist Shana Rosenthal assists people with their weight-loss or smoking-cessation goals, and stress-management expert Marc Rosenthal uses techniques such as neurolinguistic programming to help people improve their ability to socialize, negotiate, and manifest more legible thought bubbles. To unblock bodily energy and address pain or illness, guests turn to licensed psychologist and acupuncturist Maritza Kerekes, while Cindy Heard, a licensed massage therapist and certified reflexologist, restores clients' physical homeostasis.
At the Center for Integrated Therapies, Curtis Schindeler uses hypnotherapy to treat everything from addictions to depression. In the past, Curtis has helped his clients successfully overcome conditions that include posttraumatic-stress disorder, smoking addictions, and relationship problems. Unlike the way hypnosis is commonly portrayed in popular culture, the client remains in total control throughout the session. He or she is fully capable of ending the hypnosis at any point, and any chicken clucking that occurs is entirely voluntary. Curtis is also a Mental Health Counselor Intern who works under the supervision of a Licensed Mental Health Counselor.
Health Coach Donna Miller says her children have always inspired her to better herself, but it wasn't until 2012 that their influence led her to a new career. In December of 2011, her youngest daughter was diagnosed with lymphoma at the age of 19. While helping her daughter battle, and eventually, defeat the disease, Donna began learning how nutrition and holistic lifestyle changes can not only bolster the recovery process, but lead to a healthier life. Her discoveries inspired her to enroll in the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and complete her training as a health coach. Through nutritional guidance and life-coaching techniques, she helps her clients restore their bodies' natural balance, improve their mood, and increase their energy without grinding coffee beans into everything they eat.
