Along the quaint, well-preserved streets of Kenneth Village, Ariada Salon and Spa's vintage exterior conceals a three-floor haven for modern beauty services. Inside, at mirrored stations, stylists specialize in hair coloring, Brazilian blowouts, haircuts, and styling, prepping the hair and nails of guests with OPI polishes and Seven Luxury Hair Care and Moroccanoil conditioners. Body and facial waxing services are also available. An onsite boutique equips clients with True Apothecary Candles, which can be combined at home to amplify a relaxing bath or invoke the beautifying intervention of Venus. The in-store boutique sells cosmetics and candles in addition to hair- and body-care products.
Skin Deep Studio & Salon's staff analyzes skin to create personalized skincare plans and nutritional diets during complimentary consultations. Personalized regimens allow clients to follow plans that address their skin's unique needs, helping them meet their epidermal goals, such as having clearer skin or skin that glows purple when the Baltimore Ravens are on television. The staff offers a full menu of skincare treatments, including deep-cleaning facials, acne treatments, microdermabrasions, and chemical peels. Along with providing skincare, staffers relax muscles with massage therapy, apply permanent makeup, and remove hair with waxing services.
Beneath flowery wall murals, children settle into pink princess pedicure stations and Toy Story salon chairs as stylists dress their nails and shape their locks. A stream of animated classics plays across TV screens in the salon, keeping kids' heads from swiveling as stylists sculpt their manes, manicure their fingers, or blow-dry their new 'dos. Following first haircuts, wee ones cop free certificates that fit right in inside scrapbooks or stand out in contests to redesign the state flag. Parents can also participate, sinking into larger chairs for a cut or style while their children enjoy a play area complete with beanbags, books, and toys.
Aveda products are as renowned for their plant-based ingredients and eco-friendly packaging as they are for their beautification prowess, so it’s no surprise that the experts behind Glendale Aveda Salonspa rely on them during each of their styling treatments. Armed with their botanical tinctures, the salon’s stylists, mold manes with marshmallow-root texture lotions and lather locks with aromatic shampoos and conditioners. They also tint hair with colors infused with plant oils that subdue damage and leave each strand shiny and healthy. These hues come in natural blonds, browns, and reds, as well as primary and secondary colors distilled from sustainably harvested crayons. On the other side, spa staffers also reach for Aveda products—including hydrators and cleansers—as they clarify and rebalance careworn epidermises.
When they aren't nourishing clients, the stylists at Glendale Aveda Salonspa attend weekly classes to hone their skills. They also donate their time to nonprofit organizations, such as the Coalition for Clean Air and the Glendale Health Fair.
It didn't take Jackie Vardanyan long to figure out what she wanted to do with her life. She took her first cosmetology classes at age 15 and received her license right after she graduated from high school. She then threw herself into the world of aesthetics by studying makeup of all kinds: airbrush, permanent, and character. She also sharpened her skills under the guidance of Hollywood makeup artist Dina Ousley. With this experience behind her, Jackie opened Palazzo Salon and Spa.
There, she and her staff cut and color tresses amid Venetian-style decor. Old World chests stand next to ornate full-length mirrors, and crystal chandeliers cast light over gold curtains and statuary. One wall-size painting even depicts a group of women lounging in tunics, presumably waiting for conversation to be invented.
