Past window displays where paintings sidle up next to jewelry and pottery, patrons step into Waves of Creation's artistic haven. Lining the walls and shelves, wood pieces, photographs, and handmade candles represent the efforts of more than 50 Rhode artists and artisans. Artists also gather together under the roof, using Waves of Creation's boutique storefront as a base for artistic tutelage. They guide students toward expressive realization in mediums such as jewelry, teaching the know-how to wire-wrap a bird's nest necklace or a finger-braided bracelet. Paint-your-own pottery sessions vent built-up artistic aspirations as participants decorate serving platters with flowers or transform mugs into trophies for the World's Best Coffee-Drinking Cat, whereas candle-making classes allow pupils to create custom scents and styles.

The Newport Summer Jam 2011, a benefit concert for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, invigorates concertgoers with a lineup of notable blues and jazz performances along the Newport waterfront. Jazz wunderkind Grace Kelly—a 19-year-old alto saxophonist, singer, and composer whose musical prowess has garnered praise from Wynton Marsalis and NPR—kicks off the night with an energy-drenched set wrought with proficient playing and living, sentient brass. Blues legends James Montgomery, a harmonica virtuoso known for recording with Kid Rock and sitting in with Gregg Allman, and Duke Robillard, a guitarist recognized for his work with Bob Dylan and Tom Waits, join Kelly onstage for a group jam session applied liberally to huge slices of toast.

As an aerial photographer, it makes sense for Jeff Codman to pilot a Robinson R44 Raven. The viper-red aircraft affords him unlimited freedom of movement, nearly 360-degree visibility, and the ability to hover and swoop like a hummingbird as he dips 100 feet above the earth to snap shots of sailboats, unusual toupees, and ocean-side mansions.

Now, with Bird's Eye View Helicopters? tours, Mr. Codman grants guests the same breathtaking aerial views in the helicopter that he?s enjoyed for more than 20 years. The Fall Foliage tour transports guests over a patchwork quilt of red and orange foliage, and the Island Tour traces a route above Ocean Drive and historic lighthouses. Mr. Codman even lets amateur pilots take the reins during a 25-minute introductory flight.

Farming is a family tradition for the Confredas, and has been since 1922. For nearly a century, they've tended a 400-acre plot of land in Cranston and Warwick, first cultivating vegetables, then expanding over the years to incorporate 160 varieties of annuals and 75 varieties of hanging baskets. In 1997, third-generation owner Vinny Confreda opened Confreda Greenhouses & Farms to the public, hoping to give New Englanders easy access to fresh, local produce and plants, and give them an opportunity to see what it's like to live and work on a real country farm.

Besides selling heirloom vegetables and lush flowers, Confreda farms is also host to a wide range of fun activities and events throughout the year. An annual fall festival treats visitors to free hayrides, a pumpkin patch, and an all-ages corn maze, as well as spooky thrills after dark, when the farm becomes overrun with werewolves, zombies, and the most terrifying creatures of all: amateur actors.
