Sylvan Learning Center uses a personalized tutoring approach in order to develop students of all ages. During the initial visit, your child will partake in a Sylvan Skills Assessment, which highlights any trouble spots and serves as a baseline for future progress. Your child will then traverse tailored tutoring sessions, which cover topics such as math, reading, writing, study skills, and algebra. Sylvan issues regular progress reports, providing parents with a comprehensive look into their son or daughter's ongoing sessions. All five Sylvan Learning Centers are open Monday–Saturday, with hours in the morning and afternoon. Call ahead to schedule your appointment.
Sylvan Learning's Las Vegas-area locations understand that each child learns differently. Therefore, they don't try to implement a uniform tutoring system; instead, they design individualized programs based on an initial diagnostic assessment and the student's individual needs.
Tutors work with students from kindergarten through grade 12, with topics ranging from basic reading and writing to complex algebraic formulas. Sylvan's certified instructors are experienced so they understand how to gear lessons toward optimal results.
Established in 1980 and nationally accredited by the NECPA, Creative Kids Learning Center fosters the development of children aged 18 months to 12 years while meeting each of the standards set forth by the "10 Signs of a Great Preschool." Inside colorful classrooms or outside on playgrounds, inspiration flows freely as kids participate in a curriculum that features such subjects as initiative, music and movement, and creative representation. The center's hands-on philosophy emphasizes five key components, including professionalism and education, which consistently shine through the words and actions of a staff that is certified in first aid, CPR, and refereeing wrestling matches between imaginary friends. Safety and health are also cornerstones of the business, resulting in toys, equipment, and classrooms being sanitized frequently.
Every year, Legacy High School robotics team The IncrediBULLS builds a working robot from scratch. With raw materials such as aluminum and screws, they brainstorm and build a mechanical creation, programming it to respond to the world. Six weeks is all they have though, so they work hand-in-hand with professional scientists and engineers as they explore the fundamentals of STEM subjects—science, technology, engineering, and mechanics—and dip their toes into scientific-career fields. Once they complete the robot, the team showcases it at community events, such as the Las Vegas Science Festival, to spread the word about the program and the brightness of their futures. Then, they compete against other high-school teams from around the country at the 2013 FIRST Robotics Competition, striving for the national title.

A sea-centric oasis in the heart of the desert, Texas Star Oyster Bar serves up a tongue-tantalizing menu of fresh fish dishes and stiff signature cocktails inspired by taste traditions stretching from the Bayou to the Gulf. Next, slurp down a half dozen fresh oysters on the half shell ($11), or throw back an edible shooter such as the tequila madness, an oyster lounging with Sauza tequila, spicy tomato juice, and fresh lime in a shot glass ($4). Entrees include hearty classics such as New Orleans gumbo ($18), as well as lighter options including the mediterranean salmon sautéed with olive oil, white wine, tomato, capers, and basil ($16).
CALA Academy is a language school committed to expanding intercultural communication by means of interactive language-learning techniques for individuals, businesses, and speech-empowered donkeys. Unlike computer software and other language-learning methods, CALA’s face-to-face approach provides relevant topics, conversational classes, and instructor feedback for highly effective tongue untwisting. Instructors are experienced, patient, and either native speakers of the language they teach or have achieved a native speaking level through ritualistic séances. In a small class setting, budding multi-linguists can hone their English, Spanish, French, or Italian skills with four two-hour classes. Although CALA’s main focus is on developing speaking proficiency, classes also teach listening, reading, and writing skills.
