In 1986, Jane Forman stood on tennis' Mount Olympus?Centre Court at Wimbledon?and traded blows with an immortal: the legendary Martina Navratilova. Three years later, Jane?who soared into the world top 50 in her career?decided she'd rather impart her skills to others than continue playing professionally. So she founded Jane Forman Tennis Academy, where she links kids and adults alike with USPTA- and PTR-certified instructors to learn the rules of the game and hone their technique. The tennis pros tailor their curriculums to pupils' ability levels, helping them improve their serve, footwork, and most intimidating Gaelic battle cry. Private lessons are also available with Jane or another veteran of the hard court.

At Deer Creek Tennis Resort, athletes observe the arc of descending balls and knock them back toward opponents with a grunt. The facility hosts matches atop 10 Har-Tru courts and two hard courts, where renters engage in recreational play or measure their skills and vocabulary against competitors at men's and women's leagues. During clinics, certified tennis instructors expound a different aspect of the game each week, and private lessons focus on players' individual weaknesses. Through the junior program, they lavish small groups of budding athletes with extra attention and weave training methods used by Association of Tennis Professionals and Women's Tennis Association pros into instructional sessions. Molded around sure strokes, mental toughness, body conditioning, and intelligent match play, the program stands in contrast against yoga and water aerobics classes, which focus solely on fitness and gaining enough muscle to easily charge through an opponent's tennis net.

Since 1986, Brian Lutz has taught a panoply of tennis players how to improve their game and savor the sport's social aspect. Over time, he honed his teaching techniques and eventually devised his own tennis curriculum. In 2003, that curriculum inspired him to launch TennisTip, a program where experienced instructors help adults and teens improve their tennis game through self-discovery and fundamental skills.

TennisTip instructors work to provide hands-off guidance and gentle inspiration, letting students discover their best game through strategic practice. Combined with tennis-specific cardio exercises and an emphasis on social bonding, the regimen seeks to form independent, effective, and affable players out of every student. Since first starting up in the Big Apple, TennisTip has expanded to a second location, where pros instill students with courtside skills amid the warm Miami sun and attentive pelican ball boys.

Executive Links’ golfing reps play along with golfers in order to help them to perfect their game in real time. Under instructors' tutelage, golfletes will shear strokes from their averages on their choice of local course, as opposed to a driving range. Pros go beyond just perfecting swings and focus on the mental aspects of golfing, proffering advice on course-management tips, such as when to go for the green, when to lay up, and how to motivate lackadaisical ball washers. They mold lessons around pupils' styles and goals, ensuring athletes master new techniques without completely altering their personal styles. The teachers often give corporations a leg up on competitors by escorting prospective clients around the links and doling out instruction, employing the same degree of courtesy as Romeo would have required to meet Juliet’s parents.
