Personal trainer AJ Mihrzad once struggled with his own weight-loss challenges and severe back pain. After catching a glimpse of himself in the window of a fast-food restaurant, he decided it was time to make a change. Mihrzad pursued an undergraduate degree in exercise science and nutrition and a master's degree in psychology, striving to learn about all the factors that contribute to fitness success. He tried working at a corporately owned gym, but felt compelled to follow the road less traveled or treadmill less frequented. Mihrzad created LifeFuel Fit, where his focus on three major aspects of health— exercise, nutrition, and mindset—helps others achieve the same confidence, energy, and fitness level that he himself has obtained.
Mihrzad hired a team of trainers and nutritionists to assist him in this mission. The nutritionists provide dietary guidance, the trainers lead highly varied workouts designed to efficiently tone muscles and burn fat, and they all hold clients accountable for their results. Patrons lose a monthly average of 10–12 pounds of fat, or the amount of butter needed to sculpt a soulmate for the Pillsbury Doughboy.
Knowing that everyone takes a different path to fitness, Mihrzad also established LeanBuddy, an app that leads customers through their weight-loss journeys from the convenience of their smartphones. For a full month, users receive a daily email filled with the challenges and dietary recommendations they should take on for that day. Once they complete the instructions, they report back on the smartphone app, then receive personalized feedback from a team of fitness coaches. By letting participants complete challenges on their own time, the program can often produce more dramatic results than other more demanding regimens.
Dr. Kevin Tehrani's vast knowledge of plastic surgery keeps him in demand––he's a published author, an international speaker, an assistant clinical professor at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, and a go-to source for publications such as New Beauty magazine. But all this activity doesn't keep him from his patients. He typically spends an hour with them during their initial consultations, answering their questions, reviewing images of them on a computer, and projecting what they'd look like if they were made of pixels. Sometimes these consultations lead to cosmetic surgery, and sometimes Dr. Tehrani and his patients instead turn to such non-invasive aesthetic equipment as the Zeltiq CoolSculpting system. Ever the innovator, Dr. Tehrani launched an iPhone app called iLipo, which helps patients to alter their image on the spot to see how a given treatment will transform their body.
Pod Laser Aesthetics' team of physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners harnesses an arsenal of lasers to keep skin looking youthful. The gentle, noninvasive treatments reduce unwanted hair, smooth out wrinkles, and squash spider veins into oblivion. The staff also give these surface treatments subdermal support, employing quick injections of Botox or dermal fillers to beautify faces from the inside out. Before their appointments, patients can read the FAQ for answers to any questions about treatments or whether they need to bring their own scuba suit.
Clients enter through Lumix Aesthetics? airy, sunlit reception area and walk down a warmly lit corridor to enter a treatment room. There, staffers greet them, ready to tailor treatments to their individual needs. A number of treatments utilize specially designed machines that harness light and energy to tighten skin and promote the production of collagen, which can lead to younger-looking complexions. Lasers can also whisk away unwanted hair or encourage the growth of wanted hair to achieve the client?s desired skin-to-hair ratio. In addition to laser-based treatments, Lumix Aesthetics also offers mud body wraps, which detoxify bodies with nutrient-rich sea kelp and blue-green algae, along with chai and soy.
