Hooked on Fencing is an épeé-only club created to spread the joy of swordplay among people of all ages and skill levels. Having claimed national and world championships in veteran divisions, club instructor Walt Dragonetti leads classes that range from recreational to competitive and beginner to intermediate, welcoming both children and adults. Offered weekends and evenings, the introductory group class allows curious athletes and cocktail onions recovering from past trauma to learn fencing fundamentals and get a feel for whether or not they would like to delve into an extended fencing program or segue their swashbuckling skills into a promising shish kebab franchise.
At North Royalton Dance Academy, students from three to 18 years perfect rug-cutting techniques under the trained eyes and expertly whirling appendages of experienced instructors, and weekly adult classes help grownups to stay in shape. More than 10 classes educate students on adroit move-making in multiple levels of modern and traditional dance genres. Ballet builds a solid, traditional foundation on which pupils can construct the rest of their dance education or a house of groove. Hip-hop teaches the vital skills of krumping, popping, locking, and tax-return filing, and Lyrical/Modern/Contemporary places an emphasis on individual expression. Tiny Dance gets the smallest feet moving, and grownups of all levels can test shimmying skill sets in jazz and tap classes for adults, which teach how to responsibly enjoy a fermented grapevine step and how to box-step while balancing a checkbook on one's head. The studio's sprung floors protect dancers' joints as they learn to boogie in time for the annual recital.
Rumor has it the maniacal laughter, sobs, and screams of ghosts echo throughout CornStalkers Haunted Cornfield and Forest's 1-acre cornfield. Fifteen-minute strolls down its easy-to-follow trail lead brave guests through rows of 7-foot stalks teeming with scarecrows looking for new brains to show off in Oz. Foreboding also hangs over the 5-acre forest, where flesh-eating zombies, creepy creatures, and spooky effects petrify patrons making the half-hour trek down its gravel path. Visitors that survive the cornfield and forest's PG-13-level scares can regain their bearings with snacks from the concessions stand.
Crisp, juicy apples dangle from trees on Heavenly Hill Farm's rustic orchard, ripening until the moment they're plucked by visitors. The farm's owners also harvest the apples and bake them into pies or press them into cider. At certain times, they may sell other seasonal offerings such as pears or honey from the farm's beehives. Guests may also clamber onto hayrides or wander through a cornfield maze.
Clare Gales has two loves—dance and fitness. The devoted dancer and expert trainer opened Studio 82 in 1986, where she combined her two passions by hosting both fitness and dance classes on the studio's expansive hardwood floors. Today, Clare and her staff of professional dancers and fitness professionals continue to lead students of all ages in more than 100 different classes that range from ballet to cardio kickboxing.
An abundance of internationally renowned dancers and top instructors have passed through the studio's doors over the course of its 26 years, guiding youngsters and adults alike through the footwork and form of styles such as ballet, jazz, and hip-hop. Certified fitness instructors conduct a variety of energetic classes, interspersing a schedule of high-intensity cardio classes with strength-training workouts and rejuvenating yoga and Pilates sessions. The studio's diverse range of classes attracts an equally diverse group of clients that includes aspiring dancers, fitness seekers, and future brides preparing for the wedding dance or bulking up for the ceremonial arm-wrestling match against the groom’s mother.
Golf: Inside & Out’s resident golf guru David Geier offers a comprehensive approach to golf training, helping golfers on their path to mastering the technical, tactical, physical, and mental elements of the game. As players pulverize golf balls at the studio’s indoor hitting bays, the watchful instructor observes and analyzes each swing with video technology. Golf students benefit from watching a video of their swings in slow motion, helping them understand nuggets of corrective advice and sympathize with brutally compressed golf balls. Geier also teaches principles of course management, physical training, and the mental and emotional training necessary to execute golf shots on a subconscious level, a process which can incorporate hypnotherapy.
Golf: Inside & Out also helps aspiring Arnold Palmers refine their skills with advanced club-fitting services. The shop's high-tech module evaluates customers' putts and swings, then tailors a custom blueprint that helps determine correct shaft flex, launch angle, and grip size. The device can also clarify the most compatible ball for a particular club.
