Fitness Together isn't your usual gym. The locally owned franchise doesn't boast ultra-chic titles, avant-garde workout rooms, or elitist trainers. What it does do is help each exerciser achieve sustainable results via its goal-oriented philosophy and proprietary triple threat of resistance training, cardiovascular exercises, and nutritional knowledge. The Aspire 8 resistance program sculpts clients' physiques over the course of eight progressive phases through a one-year period dotted with individual goals. Cardio Together presents personalized programs designed and tracked by a certified trainer, and Nutrition Together crafts a plan for healthy living that doesn't involve water imported from Canada’s fountain of youth and includes the help of one-on-one meetings with a nutritionist.

Hailed by none other than the New York Times for eclectic dishes that combine “a homey touch with a dash of originality,” The Pine Social throws a sophisticated spin on traditional American comfort fare. Chandeliers cast a soft glow on tables situated side by side within the tavern-like restaurant and lounge, which anchors its menu on free-range meats, ocean-fresh fish, and locally sourced produce. The kitchen’s homemade sausage and slow-braised beef short ribs are not to be missed, based on their own merits as well as their shared ability to whet palates for the dessert menu’s warm apple spring rolls. Sips of aged scotch and spiked, hot apple cider thaw jaws frozen agape at the tavern’s dark-stained walls, rustic wooden accents, and plush furnishings. Light from high-definition TVs glints off the bar’s full-service spirits station, beside which guests can treat their ears to music that pours forth from live bands on Thursday and Friday nights.

Nestled among 151 private acres, Larkspur Farm’s 36-horse facility sets the spacious stage for education in the equine pursuits of hunting, jumping, and dressage under the tutelage of specialized trainers. All lessons take place year-round on the farm’s all-weather outdoor lesson ring or inside the 80’x120’ arena. Beginners establish riding skills by starting with one-on-one lessons that instill such fundamentals as mounting the horse, trotting, and applying enough gel to give your steed a mane mohawk. As riders advance, they matriculate to small group lessons of up to four riders that last one hour and cover more advanced techniques.

Larkspur Farm offers boarding facilities for privately owned horses, summer camp for boys and girls aged 7–14, and a sales and leasing program for horses and ponies.

A fishpond murmurs beside the entrance to Plum Tree Japanese Restaurant, where owner and head chef Hiroyuki "James" Nagata oversees his lunch and dinner recipes. Nagata, whose decades of culinary experience include a stint at one of the world's largest fish markets, rolls and slices sushi. His sushi creations include minced scallop sashimi and the Plum Tree Roll, whose medley of tuna and eel is crowned with a rainbow of roe. The recently renovated restaurant—in business for 20 years—sets an elegant scene, with walnut and cherry-wood floors, hand-painted wallpaper, and doorways arched like Shinto shrines. Outside, the patio’s waterfall emanates the pleasant sound of splashes, like a walrus playing in a flooded basement.

Under the leadership of manager Michael Shinsky, New Balance's professional fit specialists employ their expertise and iStep machine to fit runners, walkers, and athletes with an appropriate pair of New Balance shoes. Properly fitted footwear prevents blisters, strains, and comparisons to clowns. A selection of athletic apparel garbs active people from head to toe, encouraging support and free movement. The shop gives back to the community by raising money for charity, hosting road races, and accepting used footwear donations for Kids Helping Kids and Soles for Souls.

Alex Rubeo wants to take you on a journey. Crossing the threshold into Mariela's Wine Bar, rich hardwoods and a humble atmosphere aim to transport the senses to a faraway place—to France, or maybe Italy—where visitors sip glasses of wine, share intimate conversation, and snack on shareable plates. Alongside pours from the rotating selection of wines by the glass, live music and tastings add to the relaxed atmosphere of cozy tables, a well-stocked bar, and the occasional Snuggie-clad bartender.
