The guides lead adventurers through landscapes and waterfalls legally protected for more than a century, and along the way, they enlighten hikers with facts about the area?s natural history and ecology, and in some cases, the opportunity to pick wild berries. Tours are dog-friendly. All levels of nature enthusiasts from novice to expert, can challenge themselves with activity options such as hiking, backpacking, back country yoga, and many more activities for both single- and multi-day adventures in the authentic, challenging wilderness. Visitors can opt for single-day excursions, on which they summit a Catskills peak, or multi-night trips, during which they trek to higher peaks and spend the nights sleeping amid a tranquil forest. On all outings, hikers nosh on gourmet fare such as cheese and sausage plates and upscale trail mix, rather than the original trail mix, assorted gravel. The center also hosts in-store classes, workshops, and more to provide its future adventurers with all the tools necessary for an exciting expedition.

Those visiting Trail Blazers share this experience each morning as they emerge from their canvas-covered shelters?part of a rustic experience designed to immerse them into the outdoors. Since 1938, the more than 120-year-old American Camp Association?accredited camp has occupied 1,000 acres of Mashipacong Bogs Preserve, a slice of wilderness encompassing a 55-acre lake and access to the Delaware River and the Appalachian Trail.
The certified counselors guide campers in a decentralized camp experience focused on outdoor education and survival-skills development. They coordinate a range of outdoor programs, including youth camps in which children learning about the ecosystem and honing skills from swimming to outdoor cooking to backpacking. Camps culminate in the Vagabond trip: an extended hike, bike, or canoeing excursion designed to test each camper's abilities when not relying on squirrels for directions. Trail Blazers also coordinates school day trips and full-day or overnight custom lesson plans aligned with the New York and New Jersey State Learning Standards.
The ROC Race is a 5K fun run with a catch?a dozen of them, to be exact. Twelve giant obstacles stand in the way of victory, including a wrecking ball that threatens to knock runners off their path. The various challenges draw their inspiration from the world's most extreme game shows, where contestants have to run through tires, swing on ropes, and swoosh down giant slides. To make things even more exciting, ROC's organizers encourage participants to dress up in wacky costumes like tutus or outfits inspired by superheroes such as the Fantastic 5K Finisher.
This epic event descends on cities across the U.S., welcoming runners ages 13 and up to fend off water and foam before greeting crowds of spectators at the finish line. A post-race experience keeps things going with even more foam and festivities.
Ray Dente has been part of the fitness industry for 25 years, conducting outdoor workouts on standup paddleboards and bicycles. His proclivities allowed him to spend ample time on New York's waterfront, soaking up some local history while sweating. Ray and his guides conduct six tours of the city, each one rooted in a fitness activity that will also allow participants awe-inspiring views of famed landmarks. Visitors mount footbikes—a cross between a bicycle and a kick scooter—to take in views of the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge, and gather at the Hudson River Bridge for bouts of exercise-band training. The guides also helm the Fitness Tour Challenge, a rigorous all-outdoor session of circuit training on the edge of Manhattan, in which participants travel from Pier 40 to the Canal Street Pier as they fire off pushups, lunges, and squats along the way. As they eradicate calories, participants can admire skyscrapers, surging waters, and the envious glances of tour-goers who just have to walk everywhere.
The guides at Vertically Inclined maintain an intimate knowledge of the steep slopes, craggy rocks, burbling steams, and scenic wooded overlooks at each of their chosen hiking locations. They tailor their day hikes, overnight treks, and fall-foliage winery expeditions to fit the ability levels of their fellow hikers. Depending on their chosen route, treks may wind along trails through the Bear Mountain region and the Hudson Highlands, or to rugged landscapes including Fort Montgomery. During their many journeys, they keep their cameras handy to snap photos and document their hikers' victories over the terrain and in arm-wrestling matches with bald eagles. Though adventures technically begin at the trailhead, guides know that getting there is half the battle and provide round-trip transportation from the Bronx.
