Classes are generally held from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and involve practical instruction on Buddhist meditation, ideas, and practice. A teacher will take you through guided meditations and explain ways to put the positive benefits of meditation into practice during daily life. After class there is an opportunity to ask questions, and if you attend classes on a Thursday, the main centre sells soup and sandwiches before class. Meditation can lead to improved relationships with others, shifts in perception, more congenial conversations with yourself, and constructive behaviour when dealing with stress. Classes are taught as three to five week courses, with recommended, though not required, participation every week. Drop-ins are welcome, as all individual classes cover self-contained topics.

Open since 1977, The Lobster Man continues its tradition of vending live shellfish wares, cultivating lobsters, crabs, mussels, and other seafood in more than 25,000 gallons of saltwater in its Granville Island facility. Visitors admire mollusks' iridescent shells glittering beneath the water and select their favourite edibles such as Nova Scotia lobster, before the knowledgeable staff packages feasts or steam cooks crustaceans free of charge. The Lobster Man also bundles its marine harvests for international shipping and supplies entrees to local restaurants, supermarkets, and cats capable of using the telephone.
