Long Island Nail & Skin Care Institute president Dana Caruso juggles a busy schedule. When she’s not working behind the scenes at New York Fashion Week or appearing on Access Hollywood, she champions a science-based curriculum that helps students to master everything from makeup to laser services. Once students gain a sufficiently diverse skill set from the school portion of the center, they apply what they've learned inside the Institute’s spa. There, professionals supervise students as they perform facials, airbrush tanning, and body sugaring, a treatment mainly intended to attract mad hatters who run out of sweetener.
After a performance of The Nutcracker, Cirque Du Soleil, or the Radio City Rockettes, it’s not uncommon to see the dancers head down to teach a class at Nancy's Dance Factory. Led by Nancy Hayden, the artistic director, the team at Nancy's Dance Factory has been enriching students’ lives with dance for more than 35 years. They specialize in a variety of dance styles, ranging from ballet and tap to tumbling, pointe, hip-hop, and contemporary. Nancy's Dance Factory welcomes boys and girls as young as 2.5 years old.
Director Patrick Hanratty chose to study under hot-yoga master Bikram Choudhury after becoming captivated by the technique. He has since taught yoga for seven years, and derives the most happiness from witnessing his clients finding themselves surprised by the Bikram style's visible benefits. Patrick welcomes students of all experience levels to Hot Yoga Massapequa, where he cultivates an encouraging setting in which classes run seven days a week. During each session, guests transition from one Bikram pose to the next, following a specific sequence that utilizes every major muscle group. While the heat draws out toxins through sweat, the technique's therapeutic element inspires patrons to let go of stress and chronic aches sustained from sleeping in a giant pretzel mold.
Having already taught himself how to master the axe, guitarist Chris Strick now guides students of all ages in their own journeys to master the instrument. During lessons, Chris listens to his students to determine their playing styles, preferred paces of learning, and how many necks their guitars should have. Lessons will stress the importance of practicing and the musical abilities innate in every person that picks up a guitar. Chris can travel up to 10 miles so that students can learn in the comforts of their own homes.
