The pilots at Sun Aero Helicopters Inc. have been training pupils in the autogiro arts and transporting clients through the skies since 1991. Inside their base at Lansing Municipal Airport, aviators maintain a 12,000-square-foot hangar area and 3,000 square feet of training offices and high-speed computerized flight-planning facilities. Expert pilots impart their knowledge to up-and-coming FBI agents, police officers, emergency medical technicians, and leisure pilots during one-on-one training sessions in Robinson and Bell copters. Pilots also give landlubbers a skyscraper's view of Chicago's landmarks, such as US Cellular Field, the John Hancock building, and the Sears/Willis Tower. When they aren't transporting rally drivers, golfers, and famous wiffle ball players with private charter services, Sun Aero serves national media companies with aerial photography and land surveys.
With an armada of kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards at their command, Midwest Paddlesport Adventures' team spearheads expeditions to bodies of water across Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin. Frequent trips include calming floats down the Fox River––which is densely populated by local wildlife––and Lake Andrea, a former quarry characterized by local rocks. The expert navigators safely guide groups to their destinations, pointing out animal tracks and majestic waterfowl and they commute to the office.
The instructors at Law Weapons & Supply believe intelligence is as vital to responsible firearms handling as attitude and technical knowhow. That's why each of their classes, from basic pistol training to the Glock Operators and personal protection in the home courses, teaches beginner through advanced marksmen with a combination of classroom lecture, live-fire instruction, and approving head nods. Beyond the training facilities, Law Weapons & Supply extends to a pro shop and gunsmith, whose customization services include bluing and detailed cleanings.

Whether they run, walk, or hop aboard the closest CTA vehicle, the participants of the Chicago Urban Race for CHD Research 2013 tear across the city in search of the next scavenger hunt mission. After decoding clues to determine their next location, teams of two to four consult their list of 10 challenges, which span from physical tasks to perplexing puzzles. Teams are allowed to use transportation tools such as GPS systems, smartphones, and trails of breadcrumbs not yet eaten by pigeons. The first three teams to complete 9 out of the 10 challenges receive a prize and, most importantly, bragging rights.
The proceeds of the urban race benefit the Children's Heart Foundation’s mission to raise research funds and awareness for congenital heart defects. Since the foundation's start in 1996, it has funded more than $5 million worth of clinical research in the United States and Canada.
