Apples have an incredible range of colors, flavors, and textures. Goldrush apples, for example, are tart with firm flesh, and Cortland apples are tender, yielding fruit with a hint of spice. Four generations of the Dodd family have mastered these distinctions at Hillcrest Orchard, the 90-acre farm where honeycrisp, jonagold, and stayman winesap apples hang heavy on branches in a palette of sunset hues. As the air cools in the fall, pumpkin vines wither, leaving behind the vibrant gourds near peach trees and a kids’ playarea. Visitors pluck apples from trees, watch the scenery slip past on a hayride, or wander through a 7-acre corn maze. Chatter in the farm's store drifts amid plank shelves laden with cake and cobbler mixes, candles, and old-fashioned candies such as licorice or sepia-toned lollipops.

In 1978, a modest 32’x144’ poly greenhouse began supplying a farm with tomatoes and pepper plants. More than 30 years later, the greenhouse has exploded into a 3-acre operation that supports a leafy abundance of 15,000 flowering hanging baskets, more than 100,000 potted annuals, and 25,000 potted perennials. Helmed by Don and Janice Bench and their son and daughter-in-law, the greenhouse and nursery pairs visitors with more than 200 varieties of hybrid roses, which only require 1 gallon of gas to bloom on the highway, as well as trees, shrubs, statues, and fountains.

In November and December, the garden center morphs into a winter wonderland that showcases more than 100 decorated trees and a seasonal trove of ornaments, fragrant wreaths, poinsettias, and crimson bows. During summer months, the Benches man a roadside produce stand, where they sell sweet corn, melons, beans, and squash from their 650-acre farm.

Crisp, juicy apples dangle from trees on Heavenly Hill Farm's rustic orchard, ripening until the moment they're plucked by visitors. The farm's owners also harvest the apples and bake them into pies or press them into cider. At certain times, they may sell other seasonal offerings such as pears or honey from the farm's beehives. Guests may also clamber onto hayrides or wander through a cornfield maze.

A spring cleanup from Picture Perfect is like a day at a grass spa for lawns bedraggled by ever-abusive Old Man Winter. Let the landscaping staff gut leaves and debris from lawns and flowerbeds with the enthusiasm of a hazelnut fiend scraping the last sweet smidge from a Nutella jar. They'll trim bushes and shrubs of split ends and hibernation beards, and cut down the morbid, skeletal remains of last year's perennials and plants to make way for freshly formed, infantile plant life. All debris generated by the cleanup will be hauled away by the Picture Perfect staff as well, lest it attract curious raccoons or nest-hunting sandworms.
