Opened in 2007 as a venue for its signature FitBarre workouts, BodyFit beckons clients of all ages and builds to its intimate group classes. FitBarre movements mingle Pilates and ballet with free-weight lifts and stretches to forge flexible, toned physiques. The exclusive men's division and popular TRX suspension training round out the roster, while personal training and nutrition planning aids the pursuit of a streamlined frame.
BodyFit's instructors all commit to personalized guidance, patrolling classes to adjust clients' body alignment and whisper pep talks to individual vertebrae. The teachers can also point the way to an onsite boutique, which outfits patrons in vibrant gym wear from brands such as Lululemon Athletica and offers Beverly International supplements.
Rejuvenation Fitness's founder Terry Pratt started his gym more than 20 years ago after discovering that the standard membership model offered by most gyms didn't generate the results he wanted. The problem, as he saw it, was that most people simply weren't doing the right kind of training. After research and education, he determined that metabolic resistance training?combing plenty of cardio with pushing, pulling, climbing, tossing, and lifting?not only toned the body, but consumed fat more quickly than any one form of exercise on its own. He continues to evolve his perspective on fitness with modern trends, incorporating everything from perennially popular push-ups to kettlebells and TRX suspension harnesses into his ever-changing regimen.
What began in 1975 as one inner-city gym in Highland Park, Michigan, has since evolved into a global health-club organization with locations in 17 different countries. Powerhouse Gym equips weightlifters and cardio bunnies alike with all they’ll ever need to keep—or create—a tight and toned physique. The gym offers equipment outfitted with personal TVs as well as a cast of certified and knowledgeable personal trainers. Depending on location, members will also have access to group fitness classes, such as yoga, Zumba, and Les Mills BodyPump, as well as 24-7 turnkey access to the facility.
Kristen Cronin has witnessed first hand how Pilates can transform a body and enhance overall wellness. Her experiences as a student of Club Pilates San Diego soon led her to complete a 500-hour teacher certification program, which she finished before returning to her native Michigan home. Today, she imparts her teaching knowledge as the owner of Club Pilates Michigan and certified instructor of the Club Pilates Method. Cronin engages students with tools including the reformer equipment from Balanced Body, which is the foundation of every class at Club Pilates. With its sliding platform, pulley-driven straps, and adjustable resistance, the reformer stretches and strengthens the entire body while decompressing the spine. When paired with instructor-led routines that focus on breath control and core muscles, the equipment creates an all-encompassing workout that helps bring balance to the body.
From that base, however, classes diverge. Courses for beginners focus primarily on stretching and alignment, helping students get to know the equipment without taking it out for milkshakes. Higher level classes move at a faster pace, with more reps and a more varied roster of moves. Fusion classes mix in moves from other disciplines; Cardio Sculpt, for instance, incorporates jumping exercises, whereas Barre Reformer classes blend Pilates with moves at a ballet barre.
Fate brought together the owners of ONE Training Studio one random day during a fitness class. Years later, a budding friendship evolved even further as Jen and Michelle teamed up to open their own fitness studio in order to help others fulfill healthy and happy lifestyles. Now, from their bright orange and yellow-hued studio located in the Novi Commerce Center, the pair?who are certified in Zumba, PiYo, Turbo Kick, and RIPPED fitness classes?work alongside a team of experienced instructors and sweat mongers that help students tone their bodies.
The studio's flexible schedule offers 17 styles of group fitness classes and 9 30-minute express classes for all levels of exercisers. When not making a meaningful connection with their students in the fitness studio, Jen and Michelle can be found hosting health-conscious workshops, providing nutritional counseling, and offering lifestyle coaching services.
Each person’s journey to physical fitness is different, which is why the personal trainers at Fitness Together never force individual clients into a communal workout. Instead, they rely solely on one-on-one or small-group training in studios more private than Bruce Wayne’s closet of leopard-print capes. To surmount fitness plateaus, trainers map out each personalized routine using three complementary programs: Aspire 8, Cardio Together, and Nutrition Together. Aspire 8 is named for eight progressive stages tackled over the course of a year, rooted in resistance and cross-muscular training with regular improvement check-ins. Cardio Together augments the regime with the addition of interval and tempo workouts, and Nutrition Together helps clients tweak their eating habits in a way they can sustain forever.
