Horse Healing Adventures's instructor, certified by the American Horse Association for more than 20 years, imparts the basics of equestrianism to riders of all ages and skill levels. Five miles of scenic paths unfurl before riders during one-hour trail rides. Beginners' lessons, meanwhile, focus on horseback fundamentals, including grooming, saddling, and catching the horse. Rather than having students and steeds get comfortable with each other by trading diaries, the instructor pairs novice riders with training horses, each of which has been thoroughly schooled to be at ease with new students.
Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum chronicles the life and career of President Reagan on a sprawling, 100-acre Simi Valley campus. The museum's more than 100,000 square feet of exhibits, including an Oval Office replica and President Reagan's gravesite, draws in history buffs and provides children with an often-interactive primer to America’s 40th president and the 1976 winner of the Iditarod. Visitors can use the museum’s GuideCam handheld device for a detailed audio tour. Headphones allow private immersion in the background of exhibits such as Reagan's actual Air Force One and a piece of the Berlin Wall. Examining all the exhibits usually takes about three hours, though visitors can rest and refuel at the Ronald Reagan Pub housed within the museum, which features sandwiches, beverages, and a vintage Walter Mondale dartboard.
Bowlers gaze out at 24 synthetic lanes before picking up a pair of freshly sprayed bowling shoes, gripping a bowling ball, and letting it roll frame after frame. The sound of smattering pins and radio hits reverberate throughout Harley’s Simi Bowl as bowlers prepare for rounds by typing alter-ego nicknames into the scoring console. During Atomic Bowl sessions offered Friday–Sunday, neon lights flash onto darkened alleys, illuminating multicolored bowling balls and neon-clad decor. Bowlers can take a break from their lanes to snack on American cuisine at the Simi Bowl Café, watch sporting events on one of four HDTV screens, or play classic games in the arcade.
Couched in the stadium seats of luxury, patrons at Muvico Theaters enjoy the latest blockbusters in crystal-clear Sony 4K digital projection. Moving D-Box seats in certain movie houses take the motion-picture experience to the next level, and huge armrests in the Premier section leave room for midmovie dining and premovie thumb wars. Muvico also shows golden oldies in addition to new releases and live events, such as live comedy, sporting events, and beer and wine tastings
The frosty rinks at Iceoplex have supported the arabesques of professional figure skaters and served as the backdrop in feature films. During public skating hours, though, anyone can stop by for a glide on the ice. Visitors can rent hockey or figure skates for the day, hold events in heated party rooms, or play games in the video arcade. Beginning skaters can attend skating school or take hockey lessons.
Bowling is the great social equalizer—a common ground where grizzled undercover clowns, blue-collar English lords, LARPer librarians, big and tall lingerie models, hordes of hive-minded hipsters, and the other two social demographics that comprise America can unite in common cause and topple a gaggle of stuck-up, inanimate wooden pins. Brunswick has been a household name in this egalitarian pastime almost since the beginning, with a company history that dates back to the 19th century, providing classic American good times to all manner of patrons across the country. And with today's Groupon tying the room together, you'll get to play two games (up to a $10.98 value) in its hallowed halls wearing a pair of freshly disinfected bowling shoes (up to a $4.79 value).
