Champion over the ghoulish attractions gracing all 18 holes at Monster Mini Golf. The Winter Garden location contains enough geometric challenges to make the course interesting for all ages. Navigate your illuminated golf ball past horrible goblins, a disgruntled swamp monster, impolite specters, and a scarecrow jack-in-the-box, or just stand in awe at the 3-D spectacle. Be sure to listen for Monster Mini Golf’s own in-house radio station, "W.I.R.D. (Weird Radio)," whose live, on-site DJ hands out prizes for random reasons on the links.

Unveiled on Broadway in 1966, Cabaret has since spawned award-winning films and innumerable productions in playhouses and dental-office waiting rooms across the globe. The classic musical delves into the volatile Berlin of 1929 as it chronicles the patrons and performers of the decadent Kit Kat Klub, particularly its star songstress, Sally Bowles. Her tumultuous relationship with aspiring author Cliff Bradshaw progresses parallel to the tentative romance of a German boardinghouse matron and a Jewish fruit vendor—both of which are thrown into jeopardy as the sensual and artistic freedom of the Weimar Republic gives way to the jackboots of Nazi Germany.

With more than 60 years of theatrical experience, Ocala Civic Theatre presents more than a dozen fully staged productions each year in its 401-seat venue at the Appleton Cultural Center. Having nothing to do with amphibians or singing, When Bullfrogs Sing Opera is a charming comedy of manners focusing on two sisters from the country town of Bullfrog Waller. When Millicent, who has jettisoned her rural roots for a big-city lifestyle, is suddenly forced to deal with her thoroughly countrified sister Coreen coming back into her life, she panics and, in an effort to keep her roots hidden, tries to pass her sister off as an actress deep inside a role as a backwoods girl. In ensuing mix-ups, misunderstandings, and deceitful dealings, relationships are threatened, secrets are revealed, and library cards are left unused as Millicent is forced to confront the embarrassment she feels toward her past.

Sweet Mel's combines food and drink in a way not seen since the invention of the banana milkshake, offering a lengthy lineup of burgers, beers, and mixed drinks inside a red and black bar. From their perches on exposed-brick walls, hungry TVs can only dream of sampling what they see—pork chops, deep-fried Oreos, beef patties sandwiched between funnel cakes (The Sweet Mel), and foot-long hoagies packed with slabs of ground beef and bacon (The Boss). To wash down big meals, bartenders pour a steady stream of martinis and specialty cocktails, and fill 100-ounce towers with beer, the only beverage that does not immediately curdle when poured into a tower. A wide array of events puts the corner stage to use, with $1 drafts on Mondays, trivia on Tuesday, and Shakespearean-style readings of the menu specials every day.

One of the oldest community theaters in the state, The Gainesville Community Playhouse has produced crowd-pleasing plays since 1927. In Horton Foote’s The Trip to Bountiful, elderly Carrie sets out to escape the clutches of her cowardly son and his bossy wife by returning to her childhood home. A dedicated cast and crew of local volunteers ably enact Carrie's search for her past. Patrons peep through the fourth wall in the 210-seat Vam York Theater, which boasts facilities to stage the most demanding musicals or Shakespearean space battles.
