When LBI Surfing's certified instructors hold classes on the Jersey Shore, not only do they provide the necessary boards and wetsuits, but they get all ages and skill levels up and riding in their first session. To do this, the instructors impart surfing fundamentals in a setting customized to the students' ability, touching on balance, safety, and identifying the proper waves. But they go beyond traditional surfing, too. They're also certified in stand-up paddle boarding (SUP) and teach SUP classes alongside yoga classes. This is because they believe that the two sports complement each other, since both rely on core strength, coordination, mindfulness, and a lack of rusty metal hip joints.
Paul Hafner trained as a mixed martial artist with Russian kettlebell techniques for more than a decade before sharing his methods with professional fighters. Now, the certified kettlebell instructor owns Trident Russian Kettlebell Training, where he and his fellow cannonball throwers craft challenging workouts that not only slim figures but also build strength and endurance. In the late '80s, Cheryl Armato was so inspired by her fitness instructor, Michelle, she became a fitness instructor, herself. Since 1988, she's been inspiring others to reach goals through many types of fitness, including Pilates, paddle-board fitness, indoor and outdoor bootcamps, and cross-training. She also understands the power of language, using uplifting phrases and anecdotes to push her charges to their limits. Today, she adds dance-fitness Zumba and yoga-Pilates fusion classes to the mix. There's even classes for kids, such as Zumba Kids Jr., preschool art and play, mommy and me sensational sensory, and KidZanity, a fitness program focused on building confidence, strength, and character.
At the Four Seasons Ballroom, veteran personal trainer and fitness instructor Tara Romano commandeers the dance floor in the name of fitness, helming Zumba classes and boot camps that fuse cardio work, plyometrics, and strength training techniques. Tara also customizes workout regimens during personal training sessions to help clients safely reach their fitness goals, debunking the myth that the only way to get in shape is to steal Jack LaLanne’s foam muscle suit. Tara also brings her fitness expertise to celebrations, helming specialized, fitness-oriented birthday parties.
