Doctor of Chiropractic Stacy Cohen founded First State Health & Wellness shortly after he received his degree from New York Chiropractic College in 1984. Since then, his center has expanded to six locations and welcomed aboard 12 other chiropractic physicians.
Each location features traditional adjustment techniques and Activator tools that rapidly and gently prod trouble spots. A few locations feature specialty techniques such as the Newark location's high-tech subluxation scanning and the Wilmington location's adjustable Thompson Terminal Point table made up of several different cushions that help it morph into an even more therapeutic surface: a ping-pong table.
Dr. Cohen and his staff complement their chiropractic touch with acupuncture, massage, and nutritional counseling services, which are overseen by the center's own licensed acupuncturists and certified massage therapists. Together, the team's collective efforts have been awarded The News Journal's Reader's Choice Award for Best Chiropractic Office in 2010, 2011, and 2012, as well as the BBB's Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics in 2003 and 2009.
The creative styling team at Salon LaRoc keeps up to date better than the New York Times. Well, that’s a stretch, but the squad of hair-tamers includes a curly-hair expert and strives to stay informed about the latest haircare technology. Their cutting-edge cuts, color services, and formal and bridal styles brought home Delaware Today's Best of Delaware 2011 award. Staffers employ the Yunsey and Unite lines for hair, as well as Paul Mitchell, and OPI products for nail services touching up broken vases after throwing a party at their parents’ homes. One of their long-lasting no-chip pedicures can begin with a soothing foot soak in a cushy spa throne. The salon's elegant floral accents, dark-wood floors, and shuttered doors create a quaint, shabby-chic atmosphere.
Gentle ambient music and the splashing of a waterfall into a copper basin score the relaxing services at Fusion Ultimate Couples Retreat. As the name implies, this spa designs its massages almost exclusively for pairs on the principle that the experience can be even better when shared with someone else. An ocean-view suite sets the scene for Fusion's signature oceanfront massages, during which therapists gently work side-by-side on clients' muscles with a blend of modalities. Nine styles, including deep-tissue, bamboo, and candle-wax massage, can be used to address different types of muscle and joint tension. To further aid in relaxation, the spa also houses a private hot-tub and sauna room.
At Sweetpea Spa & Gifts, staff members analyze clients' skin types and gauge their degrees of muscle woe so they can design services that best suit visitors' needs. Botanically based medical-grade products rain down on kissers during the custom facial's exfoliation treatment, which scrubs away dead skin cells and velcro earrings. The facial cleanse then reduces fine lines and hydrates skin to create polished complexions. During the massage, Swedish-style strokes team with deep-tissue techniques to assuage muscle tension. Gliding effleurage strokes stimulate circulation and prepare muscles for deeper pressure designed to overthrow tyrannical muscle knots. The massage loosens up muscles to help to prevent injury and forestall muscular discomfort caused by playing an accordion with one's shoulder blades. The spa's adjoining gift shop collects products that can be used to summon tranquility during luxurious moments alone.
