At Source CrossFit, visitors won't find rows of shiny flat-screen TVs or fleets of treadmills, but a tight-knit team of athletes hoisting barbells, leaping on boxes, lunging, and swinging kettlebells. Through its system of high-intensity, ever-changing Workouts of the Day (or WODs), CrossFit keeps muscles strong and minds engaged with a regimen of plyometrics, cardio, and weightlifting tailored to each trainee, no matter their fitness level, age, or body type. Knowledgeable coaches with a passion for exercise motivate their students through gymnastic and strength-training workouts, pushing each participant to reach personal goals and get into shape.
The Xtend Barre workout was born when choreographer Andrea Rogers decided to add music and dance to the Pilates classes she was teaching. Something about that combination?the core strength built by Pilates and the flexibility developed by dance?struck a chord, and the workout took off. Studios across the country started teaching the technique, and Rogers began entrusting others to pass along its principles. Together these experts teach the basics of the ballet-barre workout, as well as other classes including Xtend Barre Stick (the regular workout with a Pilates Stick mixed in for extra resistance) and TRX suspension training.

Exercise is challenging, and people frequently give up on their fitness routines. How do you keep clients motivated?
Focusing on our clients' exercise experience is our top priority. Our goal as a business is to have the best retention rates in the industry so we create a uniquely individualized group fitness experience by utilizing the latest in fitness-tracking software. Members are able to get instant feedback on calories burned, heart rate, and exercise heart rate zone percentages. We also offer our members monthly giveaways based on contests related to their monthly exercise achievements.
Do you run your gym according to a particular exercise philosophy?
Our training philosophy is that fitness should support your lifestyle and not that your lifestyle should support your fitness. We promote an active athletic lifestyle and through our fitness-tracking system we are able to integrate outdoor athletic passions of members with their fitness regimens.
What is a typical session of your program or class like for a student?
Fun, challenging, dynamic, and rewarding
Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?
Sand training has been around for some time. Most all professional sport franchises, Olympic training centers, and top NCAA D-1 programs have sand-training environments. We are the only facility in the US offering members a professional level sand-training studio in a health-club setting. The Sand we use is not beach sand. It is the same professional sand utilized on the pro beach volleyball tour and Olympic Games.
In an effort to cater to families, First Class Fitness Center offers members access to a childcare facility complete with a nursery and playroom. As a CPR-certified staff watches youngsters, adults can engage in one-on-one training sessions with a certified personal trainer without the pressure of impressing their children. Or they can attend one of the gym's many classes, including Pilates, kickboxing, yoga, and boot camp. On the amenities front, First Class offers fitness evaluations, nutrition coaching, tanning, and towel service.
Agility Studio's spacious facility encourages a combination of strength training and cardio through a variety of individual and group exercise classes. The studio's experienced instructors support their students in both basic and advanced movements in subjects such as Pilates, yoga, and spinning. They emphasize strength, alignment, and flexibility as they provide individualized and hands-on training. Prenatal Pilates classes, created by doula Rana Kennedy, encourage a combination of Pilates, strength training, and flexibility, both on the reformer and on other equipment, while supported by trainers with prenatal exercise. Training is designed for women of all skill levels, and is easily adaptable based on a woman's needs.
SoCal Fitness Boot Camp for Women’s quartet of instructors inspires patrons with positivity during each gal-centric, camaraderie-fueled outdoor class. Targeting typically troublesome areas including the thighs, rear, and stomach, one-hour boot-camp sessions cater to women of all levels of fitness prowess by pushing each to perform without unsafely overexerting. Each class slings a variety of body-testing obstacles from an arsenal that includes strength training, short-distance running, Pilates, and full-contact rounds of patty cake. With regular attendance, ladies often note an improvement in endurance and muscle tone, a slimmed physique, and all-over stress attrition. Classes convene in the mornings or evenings, depending on how hard each location parties the night before. Instructors ask that each participant supply a mat, set of 3-, 5-, or 8-pound hand weights, and towel.
