First, there are drinks. Many of the classes at Liquid Canvas begin with education about a beverage?whether it's wine or something nonalcoholic?that participants sip before diving into the creative process. Each painting session focuses on a different composition, including flowers, whimsical trees, and unsteady wineglasses. Experienced artists take the lead, sharing tips with students as they tend to their canvases and explaining such painterly concepts as the rule of thirds and why ponytails don't make good brushes. Set to upbeat music, the classes are meant to be relaxed and social, and each participant gets to take their completed masterpiece home.
Lucky Duck Aviation's FAA-certified flight instructors have created a unique step-by-step curriculum to help the land-locked proceed into the clouds. Flying Cessna 172s in their lessons and tours, Lucky Duck equips amateur pilots with the necessary tools to safely fly as a hobby or profession while learning to avoid nomadic gangs of flying saucers. The trained pilots also give guided tours of 30–60 minutes so passengers can behold some of Utah’s most notable sites, such as the Red Butte Gardens, Robert Smithson’s Spiral Jetty, and local wildlife.
In crowded classrooms, it's easy for the needs of individual children to be overlooked. Despite the best efforts on the parts of teachers and students alike, all children learn at different rates and in different ways. Sylvan Learning Center's nationwide network of tutors and resources seeks to fill in educational gaps and keep flagging students from elementary to high school up to speed.
Whether children struggle with reading, writing, or solving the complex logarithms necessary to get their jetpacks airborne, Sylvan's learning gurus help them chart a course through learning roadblocks. Initial skills assessments determine where students fit into the Sylvan tutoring regimen with a series of tests, diagnostic tools, and interviews. With a greater understanding of the needs of each student, tutors create custom approaches to keep students engaged and in command of the fundamentals.
Jennifer Groberg has always loved a challenge. A math wiz, she worked at Wells Fargo before leaving to help her brothers start their business. She acted as their chief financial offer as the company grew from their parents' garage to employing more than 20 people. It was this experience that inspired her to branch out on her own, when she founded BookSmarts Accounting.
At BookSmarts, Jennifer not only provides a variety of accounting services but also helps her clients learn to handle their businesses on their own via QuickBooks seminars. She has gathered an extensive list of institutional clients, ranging from the University of Utah to small local businesses.

Bountiful Flight opens up new worlds to students of all ages with accessible introductory lessons in piloting private aircraft. Pupils can get a feel for an airplane's controls with simulator sessions and grounded lessons before sitting behind the yoke of a Cessna Skyhawk 172. During introductory flights, a seasoned instructor supports novice pilots as they glide over the Salt Lake CIty skyline. After landing, students can take home a high-definition film of the flight, captured from three cameras mounted on the airplane and operated by wing-walking gremlins.
