For the minds behind Brothers Drake Meadery, being a truly local business doesn't just mean making a product with local ingredients. In an effort to support the local economy, each Brothers Drake batch—crafted from local wildflower honey, as well as local fruits and spices—is exclusively sold in Ohio. These days, the meadery specializes in more than 10 varieties, from semidry traditional meads to meads mixed with apple cider.

Brothers Drake's barkeeps even incorporate the honeyed libation into specialty cocktails, including the Meadarita, a blend of vodka, orange liqueur, and freshly pressed lime juice. Local and organic ingredients flavor the cocktails, too, and beers made by Ohio breweries make up the beer selection. Japanese bar bites, such as deep-fried tofu, complement drinks, which patrons can enjoy amid almost daily live music that ranges from jazz to reggae to whale song.

Formerly an award-winning home brewer, Mike Byrne now oversees the award-winning Buckeye Lake Brewery’s handcrafted beer. Its rotating selection of six beers on tap, which range from a brown porter to an amber ale to a stout, fills growlers at the 42-seat pub. Along with Ohio wine, the brews complement the pub's panini sandwiches and pizza delivered from Pizza Cottage straight to the pub’s tables.
