The oldest surviving theater in central Ohio, the fin de siècle elegance of the Southern Theatre's jewel-box auditorium transports audiences back to the days of vaudeville antics and silver-screen spectacle. Built in 1896 to state-of-the-art standards, the theater's bandshellesque proscenium bucked architectural norms to funnel sound into the seats. Its 204 light bulbs required that the theater generate its own electricity for years, until scientists figured out that nobody needed to worry about that stuff.

Presented by the COB Foundation, the Ohio Homecoming is one of the organization’s many community-wide events that raise funds to help connect residents to career and education resources. With today's deal, music enthusiasts join the celebration during a special concert from Grammy-nominated artist Drake. Just days before the release of his second studio album, Take Care, Drake splits the spotlight with a special guest to rouse fans with infectious beats, unfeigned lyrics, and his family's long list of secret spaghetti recipes. The young flow-master's expanding legend already includes collaborations with rap savants Jay-Z and Lil Wayne, plus a lineup of chart-dominating singles such as "Best I Ever Had," "Make Me Proud," and "Headlines." Ohio Homecoming has billed the show as an encore performance, as its original July date was cancelled due to a local thundercloud's misinterpretation of what making it rain means.

Founded in 1963 at a local YMCA, the Cincinnati Ballet grew into a major regional company by adhering to its mission to express the human experience through dance. Today, it continues upholding that vision by housing resident artists who entertain audiences with dance performances of both classic and original work. Beyond supporting local audiences and their right to clap, the Cincinnati Ballet also seeks to nurture artists through the Otto M. Budig Academy. There, a professional faculty trains aspiring performers at all skill levels. These training opportunities are supplemented by outreach programs such as CincyDance!, which provides free training and dance attire to children.

The permanent orchestra consists of approximately 80 professional musicians, though extra musicians are regularly enlisted to garnish the sound and retrieve coffee during extremely long rests with bolded fermatas.

Watch Marc-André Hamelin strum his piano to the tune of Haydn, Mozart, Chopin, and more, or listen to the State Symphony Capella Chorus of Russia, a 50-member song squad whose outstanding choruses nourish the ears of audience members like the heartwarming chirps of a canary echoing from the inside of a vodka bottle. Grab the November 30 performance to hear The Cleveland Orchestra sonically dust ears with elegant, symphonic interpretations of Saariaho, Mozart, and Holst.
