The stylists at HiLites Hair Salon treat hair like a canvas. Sculptured shapes, unearthly colors, and even highlights that traverse the head horizontally or diagonally are within the reach of the stylists' skilled hands. Of course, the salon excels at timeless styles as well, crafting layered strands or clean spiral curls with the skill of a fashion-conscious pasta chef and smoothing out unmanageable strands with relaxers, keratin treatments, and five different strengthening packages. Once the hair has been perfected, clients can move on to more visage-centered services such as facials, waxes, and makeup applications.
Evie and David Cohen founded David's Beautiful People in 1973 with one goal in mind: to create a welcoming, down-to-earth space for clients to get modern haircuts. To that end, David has traveled the globe for more than 50 years, touching down in destinations such as Italy, Germany, and France, where he’s picked up talented stylists, devoured obscene amounts of Nutella, and learned the latest haircare techniques. He is a member of the prestigious Intercoiffure organization, and some of his hair handiwork—inspired by the Gilded Age of The Great Gatsby—was featured in Washington Life’s September 2012 Balls & Galas issue. The precision of David and his team’s cutting skills has kept some of the original clients coming back for nearly four decades. This customer loyalty earned the establishment recognition as a top vote getter in Bethesda Magazine’s 2011 Best of Bethesda contest.
The large, bustling salon is divided into two rooms: one for cuts and another for color services. The coloring room features an advanced ventilation system to help clients and stylists recover their breath. The crew also offers mani-pedis and silk-wrap nails.
Inside Studio 355's contemporary salon, a team of beauty experts helps clients to showcase their best selves with a lengthy list of hair, skin, and nail services. The salon boasts a large team of stylists and master stylists, many of them educated abroad under highly regarded hair programs and well-known stylists to the stars. With Aveda products in its arsenal, the hair team uses its varied talents to give clients any look they desire, be it extensions, bridal updos, creative coloring, or straight, relaxed hair. An accomplished skin therapist helps fight the signs of aging or skin conditions such as acne with services for both men and women, and waxing treatments leave body hair wondering what it did to not deserve its own updo.
Co-owners Michelle Tamayo and Becky Watson share a salon, years of experience in hair cutting and styling, and Vidal Sassoon training. Together, the duo leads a team of beauty professionals as they shape, color, and texturize strands with products from Moroccanoil, L’Oréal Professionnel, and Aquage. The salon's team also grooms fingers and toes, removes unwanted hair from the body, and prepares faces for parties or Blue Man Group auditions with makeup applications.
London-trained and previous artistic director of 23-salon chain, Rick Gesumaria doesn't subscribe to the one-size-fits-all approach to hair design. Every haircut he administers is customized to meet that client's features, such as the texture of their hair, the shape of their face, and the height of their ceilings. Through a specialized computer program, he can even show clients how they'd look in hundreds of hairstyles and color treatments before they decide on their favorite. A 30-year veteran of hair design, Rick works out of David's Beautiful People, offering keratin treatments, Japanese straighteners, and extensions, all with a creative eye and desire to craft a style that gels with and emphasizes the client's look.
