In 2011, single mother Ms. James juggled a job, college coursework, and an internship, which left scant funds to spare. But she didn't want her son to miss out on the extracurricular activities offered to his peers. That's why she founded Innovative Arts, Inc., where students from all walks of life can explore everything from Spanish to French to martial arts to science to cooking.

The toddlers, teens, and adults who attend tumbling and dance classes at Broadway Performing Arts Center reap health benefits: they become stronger and more coordinated as a result of their efforts. But there are psychological benefits, too. Students build self-confidence while expressing themselves through ballet or hip-hop, and when hours of practice turns into a successful handstand, they learn the value of dedication. Students who stick with the program can progress to join teams that foster friendly competition.
At Applause For Kids, children can cultivate self-confidence and self-awareness through a supportive program that helps them develop singing, dancing, acting, and even costume-creating skills. A talented group of instructors prepares campers for performing in a Broadway-style show over the course of one week, ending with an impressive performance. Several camps are available from June to August, including Willy Wonka and Wonderful Wizards, the jazz- and tap-dance-infused Puttin’ on the Ritz, and the Magical World of Broadway, which showcases characters from Mary Poppins, Aladdin, and The Little Mermaid. To ensure optimum skill development, children are divided into groups by age. Children will attend camp between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday, while Friday camps start at 10 a.m., with a week-ending showcase performance.
