Using halal meats and Malaysian recipes, Belacan Grill presents diners with a menu populated by diverse dishes and preparations. The seafood selection includes live crab or lobsters prepared in one of five ways: Belacan-style means meat will be stir-fried and served with shrimp paste, while the curry option sweetens meat with a coconut-milk gravy. Whole fish can be steamed or deep-fried, and blanketed with brown-bean sauce or a blend of spices and fresh chilies. Like best-selling romance novels, the beef rendang is spicy and tender, making it one of Belacan’s most popular dishes, as is the mamak mee goreng, a tangle of stir-fried egg noodles, chicken, shrimp, and sprouts in tamarind sauce.

Yellow, green, and red curries bubble slightly in pans, ready to be poured over pieces of pork and shrimp. Nearby, chefs flip teriyaki-glazed salmon filets and barbecue chicken on the grill inside Thai California Kitchen. They also pan-fry noodles and sauté proteins in a variety of dressings including peanut sauce or Thai chili paste.

When the family behind L5 Thai Restaurant & Lounge immigrated to the United States from Thailand, they brought along a deep love for their native cuisine. The menu aims to capture the region's complex and distinctive blend of flavors and spices. However, truly re-creating these flavors requires a more personal touch, and the chefs acknowledge this by making some noodles in-house and by giving nicknames to every single peanut. This commitment lends even more authenticity to the selection of familiar Thai staples, including fragrant curries, stir-fries with spicy chili sauces, and Thai-style barbecued spare ribs.

The dining room's white tablecloths appear crisp and minimalist, but the red walls, ceiling-mounted surfboard, and chrome-laden bar seating area imbue the ambiance with some casualness and whimsy. Leafy plants sit in the corner, adding a verdant splash to contrast the reds, golds, and ambers defining the majority of the space.

When the former owners of Fa-Sai Thai Cuisine decided to retire, some long-standing guests of the eatery took the reins. They kept the same Thai dishes on the menu, cooked as authentically as possible by Thai-born chefs. Meats and veggies are tossed with creamy curries and pair with fried rice or pan-fried noodles. The entrees are built with a protein base and smattering of vegetables flavored with a variety of mild and spicy sauces, including teriyaki, oyster, sweet and sour, and mongolian. Even the desserts honor the chefs? heritage, with bowls of sweet sticky rice and mango. Fa-Sai Thai Cuisine is located 10 minutes from Disneyland? Theme Parks, making it an ideal stop on the way home for families exhausted from avoiding Mickey-shaped corn dogs all day.

Q&A with the Owner / Manager

What is one of your most popular offerings? How is it prepared?

Pad Thai is our most popular noodle dish. Stir-fried rice noodles with chicken, shrimp, egg, green onions, bean sprouts and our special blend of spices, then sprinkled with ground peanuts.

In your own words, how would you describe your menu?

The most popular dishes of Thai food are selected in our menu with variety of flavors. Many beneficial herbs, spices ,and seasonings such as ginger, basil, galangal, garlic, fresh chili, [and] lemon grass ... are used in our dishes.

Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?

The taste of Thai dishes mainly depends on the freshness of ingredients, the harmonious blending of poignant flavors, and the method of cooking that has been handed down for generations. We cook the way we eat at home and take spice very seriously. For our cooked to order menu, the customer can specify a spicy level as No Spice, Mild, Medium, Spicy or Fire.

On St. Patrick’s Day weekend, runners in the fun, festive Leprechaun Leap wind their way through the District at Tustin Legacy, treading a brisk 5-kilometer course. The laid-back atmosphere welcomes veteran runners, walkers, babies in strollers, and dogs either attached to leashes or piloting miniature blimps from above. Participants are spurred on by the race's very own mascot, Terry O'Tustin.

At the finish line, each runner receives a finisher’s T-shirt and wristband, as the closing ceremonies honor the racers with the fastest time and bestow awards to the best costume for both humans and canines. After the event, an expo sprawls across the District’s promenade, where racers and spectators groove to live music and entertainment.
