Exercise is challenging, and people frequently give up on their fitness routines. How do you keep clients motivated?
Both yoga and Zumba students enjoy a scenic, hillside studio where distractions fall away and they can tap into self-discipline to help them move toward their lifestyle choices. Class sizes are limited so students receive individualized guidance, and all programs are directed by a licensed psychotherapist/certified yoga instructor, and certified Zumba/Zumba Gold instructor.
Sweating to the oldies is acceptable, but sweating to the blues less so. Do you find that certain styles and genres of music generate more intense workouts?
Music with which students connect is key in getting the best results quickly from Zumba. Latin-based hits that students recognize lifts workout intensity and does not feel like a workout. This Zumba program increases strength and cardiovascular health while teaching real dance steps each student can use in social settings.
Do you run your gym according to a particular exercise philosophy?
Whether yoga or Zumba, students practice in a community where there is no judgment or comparison. Each person works within their own set of personal goals and intentions. Proper form and alignment are encouraged to minimize risk of injury for all students. Only the human body and forces of gravity are used for these programs so students reap maximum effectiveness in the studio or practicing anywhere on their own.
Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?
[Our] studio emphasizes optimal wellness through movement based on hatha yoga and Zumba dance, and through the synthesis of Western and Eastern philosophies, including the art of meditation. [The] studio is also home to Argentine tango, salsa and cha cha cha, taught by a professional dance couple.
Owner Sunny Woodall's vision for Addiction Salon & Fitness Studio brings together beauty and fitness. Her team of dedicated beauticians and fitness instructors cultivate a friendly atmosphere as they lead exercisers through workout routines or touch up hair and faces.
Contemporary light fixtures illuminate crystal chandeliers around the salon's baroque interior. Clients can relax in a waiting area sheathed in purple damask wallpaper before heading to styling chairs, where beauticians transform locks into voluminous curls and makeup artists doll up faces with cosmetics and faux lashes.
In Addiction's fitness studio, clients tone muscles in piloxing and cardio barre sessions and take part in upbeat pole-dancing workouts, which are divided by skill level and ability to spin in perfect synchronization with the rotation of the earth. Groups of up to 15 can also join in the aerobic fun as they celebrate bachelorette parties and ladies' nights out with private lap-dancing workshops.
The Yoga Mat’s certified instructors unite their diverse expertise to teach classes both vigorous and low-key. They oversee an eclectic schedule that catalogs several yoga methods, such as demanding Vinyasa flow. They teach the Vinyasa modality to challenge students to a continuous series of postures linked with deep breaths, and they teach mindful yin yoga to challenge students to longer-held poses that maximize stretching. The staff also helms restorative classes with guided meditation designed to relax the body and calm skittish spirit horses. To mix regimens up even further, some instructors leverage their Pilates certifications to lead core-strengthening workouts, and yogi and doula Lauren Jacobs leads specialty classes such as prenatal yoga. The staff leads these classes amid homey ladder shelves, houseplants, and gleaming hardwood floors, creating a comforting and serene setting for yoga practitioners of all experience levels.
Though the Megaformer may sound like a character out of Transformers, it's actually a piece of Pilates equipment. Created by Sebastien Lagree, the apparatus blends classic Pilates movements with cardio and weight training for a full-body workout. It's also what sets Pilates Plus Cycle apart from its competitors. Rather than run in place on a treadmill or perform repetitive dead lifts, members immerse themselves in a fitness practice that quickly tones limbs, strengthens mid-sections, and boosts endurance without putting pressure on their joints. Though they're the centerpiece, the Megaformer classes aren't the only workouts at the fitness haven. Spinning whisks members onto stationary bikes where they change the resistance settings and speed to burn calories and firm up legs.
When an ankle injury ended Brittany Freeman's rising ballet career at age 18, she refused to let it dampen her enthusiasm for dance in general. Instead, she devoted her time to devising a fitness system that combined ballet-like stretches, Pilates, resistance training, isometric movements, and body-weight exercises to create an innovative and engaging workout regimen. This regimen is widely taught at her fitness studio—Tone Barre—which features sprung maple floors intended to minimize any strain that the low-impact workouts place on the joints. In addition to the muscle-toning and waistline-slimming Tone Barre sessions, the studio's instructors also lead high-intensity Tabata classes that provide a complete workout by incorporating interval cardio work.
The trio of trainers behind Nzforce fitness have seen many a would-be athlete leave the gym behind because it didn’t offer them any motivation or fun. They aim to remedy that problem with high-energy group Zumba classes, where students sweat, dance, and make friends. The class-goers help hold each other accountable for attendance, but the organizers make it easy to find time in a busy schedule for exercise by holding classes six days a week.
