SemSeg's Segway experts equip urban explorers to cruise through Detroit at up to 12.5 miles per hour during self-guided tours. A brief orientation covers proper techniques for turning, stopping, and impromptu jousting. Then, motorists hop aboard scooters and travel up to 24 miles on a single charge. The long battery life allows motorists to cruise down the Riverfront, circle 14-acre Hart Plaza, and crisscross the Rivard Plaza in a single trip. Though SemSeg encourages DIY tours, their guides lead weekend tours through downtown and down the Riverwalk.
Offering unique "backseat" tours of Detroit, tour guide and Michigan native Joseph C. Krause hops into tourists' cars where he guides them through the streets and sights of the city. Often taking roads less traveled, his tours take visitors on an insider's route through the ever-evolving metropolis where he sheds light on little-known facts. Tour routes are entirely customizable, Krause is a wealth of knowledge on any trip, which can last anywhere from a few hours up to an entire day.
As the official Wolverines hoops haven for more than 40 years, Crisler Arena holds more than 13,000 rollicking gold-and-blue brethren for each of the storied program's hard-fought home games. Behind playmaking sophomore guard Darius Morris and freshman phenom Tim Hardaway Jr., the Wolverines are ready to challenge conference opponents with a fury of fast breaks, dunks, dribbles, and dirty dishes. Michigan's Big Ten matchup against the Badgers from Madison also marks Fan Appreciation Night, during which ardent hoops hounds are rewarded for their unconditional basketball jones with special prizes and performances by the Michigan dance team. Cheer on Coach Beilein's crew of collegiate ballers as they polish glass backboards and refinish hardwood floors in a valiant attempt to intimidate their haplessly smaller, red-clad weasel prey.
Trapped Toledo throws its visitors into three bone-chilling scenarios??and fittingly, all of them begin in a locked room. Each experience bands 12 audience members together to track down clues and solve inventive puzzles, all with the aim of averting a dire situation and??hopefully??escaping. Blown Away, for instance, presents a bomb planted by a supervillain who threatens to blow up the city and has concocted puzzles to prevent others from disarming it. Alternatively, Infected! places players at the epicenter of a burgeoning zombie apocalypse. It locks them in with a top parasitologist who is, himself, infected and challenges them to find the cure.
Zyndorf Glass & Arts kindles creative mastery in students of all ages and abilities during workshops, classes, programs, and social events centered on the art of silica sculpting and more. During each 2.5-hour session, students delve into methods and techniques, such as cold forming, used in crafting handmade jewelry pieces. Advice from the studio’s resident muses and all necessary materials—including tools, equipment, and wand-wielding fairies—are available to students as they construct their own décolletage adornments. After crafting two personalized pendants and pairing each with a sturdy bail, artists will send their pieces off to be fired in a secured kiln, which melts the glass into a strong and glossy work of art. After pendants cool, amateur artists can return to the studio to pick up their masterpieces and walk, skip, or electric slide through the boutique brimming with clothing items and original artwork. Through December 1, 2011, Groupon customers will receive an additional 20 percent off regularly priced merchandise in the Zyndorf shop.
The entry door slams shut, and you immediately plunge into a world of terror and macabre. Skeletons hang from a dungeon's walls, maniacal clowns run through a fun house, and a blood-spattered bathroom horrifyingly runs out of soap. This is Dimensions of Darkness, a haunted walk-through that takes brave souls across a maze of terrifying rooms with even more terrifying inhabitants. The fright fest has caught the attention of USA Today and the Toledo Free Press, which noted that "each room, hallway and prop is so well-crafted that if you’re not being stalked by one of the resident ghouls, your focus is on how real everything feels."
Thoroughly immersed in their roles, live actors pop out at guests, thus filling every room with an orchestra of screams. Meanwhile, fog creeps over the floors and creepy sounds build tension between every scare. But despite this terror, visitors are never trapped. Security officers, each thoroughly vaccinated against zombies, stand ready to lead guests to the nearest exit should they wish to depart early.
