CYT Tucson immerses kids in a supportive environment that nurtures discipline and self-confidence while instructing the future thespians in the arts of the stage. Their introductory Rising Stars program acquaints children aged 5–7 to the magic of drama through games, dance, and the lesson that emotions can be faked to influence people other than relatives and mall Santas. Older students can enroll in specialized classes and devote their attention to the triple-threat disciplines of singing, dancing, and acting. They may also branch out into specialty courses on such topics as improv and stage fighting. Leading its charges through the production of a fully realized musical, the center also stages several shows, including past productions of Pocahontas and Annie in recent years.
We are committed to great entertainment at great prices, with outstanding customer service. One of the last video stores left in town, we plan to outlive the giant chains and the small red box with our great attitude and greater movie and game rental selection.
Under the baton of conductor George Hanson, the TSO's string, brass, and wind ensembles will kick off the concert series with Stars of the Symphony, which showcases a glittering array of chamber gems that culminates in Handel's jubilant Concerto Grosso, Op. 6, No. 12 in B minor. Marvelous Mozart celebrates the genius of Mozart in non-synthesized fashion with his instantly recognizable "Eine kleine Nachtmusik" before closing with the graceful complexity of Wolfgang Amadeus' Symphony No. 40 in G Minor, which he composed shortly after springing fully formed from his father's head. Schumann Romance focuses on the husband-and-wife team of Robert and Clara Schumann, particularly Robert's famous Overture, Scherzo & Finale, Op. 52 and piano concerto. Pianist Elizabeth Joy Roe will juxtapose Robert's energetic concerto with Clara's more playful, elegant Piano Trio in A Minor. The season closes with Virtuoso Violin & Haydn as concertmaster Aaron Boyd dazzle audiences with the soaring stringsmanship of Beethoven's Coriolan overture, Vieuxtemps' brilliant Violin Concerto, and Haydn's joyous 92nd Symphony (the Oxford).
Many sports bars are judged on the size of their televisions. Too few are evaluated by the number of side-by-side stock-car and motorcycle drag races that happen on their premises. At World Sports Grille, there are both. More than 30 high-definition TVs—including one with a 103-inch display—broadcast sharp resolution of sports heroes’ graceful moves and sports anchors’ autograph-covered toupees, and nearly 75 racing, action, and other gaming consoles pit players into virtual battle. In the game room, TVs and videogames join forces, with sounds of cracking baseball bats and crunching football pads mingling with bells, whistles, and engine throttling. This mixture of athletic entertainment and interactive play powers part of the formula that launched World Sports Grille to the top of Tucson Weekly's list of Best Sports Bars for four straight years (2009–2012).
The menu of classic bar food and snacks has also snagged accolades: half-pound Angus burgers capped with brioche buns have taken home the Great Tucson Hamburger Contest title. Guests can sample the winning burgers—such as the barbecue bacon smothered with a tangy house-made, beer-flavored sauce—while sidled up to the square bar under autographed jerseys and memorabilia, or while out on the patio next to fragrant coriander or cacti plants guarding the restaurant from balloon invasion. World Sports Grille also partners with the Tucson Padres for events, and UFC fights have drawn standing-room-only crowds.
A nationally renowned tutoring program, Sylvan Learning utilizes a personalized tutoring approach to develop students of all ages and abilities into perceptive pupils. During the initial visit, children will partake in one subject test that highlights trouble areas and serves as a base line for future progress. An erudite educator then leads four one-hour tutoring sessions tailored to young minds' particular needs in subjects such as math, reading, writing, and the ethics of alligator wrestling. Fledgling polymaths can use their customized tutoring sessions to prepare for future algebra tests or fine-tune study skills to get a head start on memorizing next year’s phone book.
