Saguaro Aquatics' indoor and outdoor swimming pools double as recreational venues and classrooms. Instructors guide swimmers 6 months and older in group or private swimming lessons that cover the techniques for mastering strokes and growing gills. The noncompetitive synchronized-swimming club practices their aquatic art form twice weekly, and boot camp participants jump in and out of the pool for boxing, cardio, and swimming exercises. During Kids' Night Out, little ones enjoy themed games, crafts, and snacks while a projector showcases a kid-appropriate movie on a 15-foot screen. The club recently expanded its portfolio to include the landsport tennis.
Bridget Connelly’s journey to Pilate-cally Correct included many pit stops. At the first, in Philadelphia, she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of the Arts. At the next, in Miami, she completed the Core Dynamics Pilates teacher-training program. She then practiced in Miami and established a not-for-profit Pilates organization, moved to Paris and taught for two years, and finally settled in Tucson—her hometown. Here, she assumed ownership of Pilates Experience and transformed it into Pilate-cally Correct. Today, Bridget and her staff continue to spread the healing benefits of Pilates through private sessions, group mat classes, and small-group reformer classes. They also offer Xtreme Barre, which blends ballet and cardiovascular exercise with Pilates.
The trainers at Bodyzen Boot Camps know many workout environments can be intimidating. That's why their outdoor boot-camp sessions are brief, entertaining, and adaptable, featuring exercises with three stages of intensity to suit different strength levels. The 30- to 45-minute classes include kettlebell swings, cardio drills, and bodyweight moves designed to torch fat from physiques of all builds. During the camp's vigorous intervals, instructors patrol their troops with a personal trainer's eye and tailored advice. They continue the trend of individualized treatment after class, when they open the floor for questions and six-pack show-and-tell.
Though they devote much of their energy to fast-paced routines, staff members also highlight the value of proper nutrition. Each camper receives a nutritional manual and a six-week meal plan to guide eating escapades, and optional body-composition analyses and at-home workout MP3s keep muscles from slacking.
Lady of America has designed its fitness centers, which are equipped with strength-training and toning equipment, specifically for women. Personal training grants expert advice, and the centers’ included on-site childcare frees up moms to attend group classes, such as Pilates, Zumba, and yoga, without their children interrupting their asanas to ask for financial advice. The staff also proffers senior programs and plans for weight loss and improved nutrition, and maintains an array of cardio equipment.
O2 Modern Fitness helps clients of all fitness levels and walks of life reach their full fitness potential—including former mayor Lynne Skelton. With her days packed full of rich lunch meetings and countless hours at the desk, Skelton became dissatisfied with the shape her body was taking. After hearing about O2 Modern Fitness, she attended a class that inspired her to take the O2 Challenge, a three-month program of classes and meal plans. After that, she became an advocate for healthy cities, working with Tucson's former mayor Bob Walkup to promote physical fitness and set up blockades against giant marshmallow men.
Now a tried-and-true fitness emporium, O2 Modern Fitness began when Susan Frank realized the key to keeping her genetically high cholesterol low: cycling. Today, helping clients achieve strength and conditioning through cycling and HIIT are the primary goals of O2, thanks to self-paced group training. Yet beyond the bike, certified staff members lead students though high-intensity interval training and kettlebell conditioning classes that heighten core strength and flexibility.
Koko FitClub Oro Valley exercise programs were designed by fitness pros Rob Parr, Kathy Kaehler, and Michael Wood, who together boast a portfolio of high-profile clients including Madonna, Hugh Jackman, and numerous professional athletes. The trio's digitally empowered program pushes personalization at all levels, from tailored routines to individualized results and goals. To accommodate trainees, each gym houses hybrid exercise machines built for both cardio and strength training, eliminating the need to either change machines or bench-press friends in between reps. To begin, guests insert Koko keys into machines, which then display personalized routines broken down in a comprehensive manner. Throughout the workout, the system monitors technique, pace, and overall progress, which clients can later review on a private web page.
