During sultry fitness classes, instructors at E-Sensual Dance create supportive environments in which women of all ages can be themselves?or, they can choose to be someone else instead. Costumes and props help shake off the jitters and release each woman?s inner vixen. ?That's when you start to let your guard down and have a good time," founder Rosemarie Mitchell told Newsday. ?That?s what we encourage.?
Mitchell understands that sometimes costumes help bring a character to life; after 12 years working in off-Broadway shows, she founded E-Sensual Dance to combine theatricality with flirty choreography. In addition to being fun, the pole-dancing and zumba classes help strengthen cores, build upper-body strength, and spice up jobs propping up small trees.
A class at Josie?s International School of Dance is like a passport to the pulsating rhythms of the world. You can groove to the sultry beats of Latin music, sway through a traditional belly-dance routine, or slow-dance with a saxophone during a jazz class. Youth and adult classes explore these and other disciplines in depth with teachers who have studied everywhere from the Joffrey Ballet School in New York to private dance schools in Egypt.
Valentina knows the rhythms of Zumba by heart. Born and raised in Uruguay, she spent four years studying the traditional dances of her home country and two additional years learning candombe, a cultural dance of the Afro-Uruguayan community. Latin dance remained a major part of her life even after she moved to the U.S., where she studied salsa and merengue. Valentina fell in love with Zumba when she realized she could combine all the styles of dance she enjoyed into one intense cardio workout.
Today, Valentina brings her extensive knowledge of traditional dance styles to all her classes, teaching alongside another dancer, Madi Di Cara. They demonstrate dancing styles and techniques in ballet, hip-hop, and salsa, as well as teaching slower Zumba Gold classes and leading age-appropriate dances in Zumbatomic kids' classes.
Zumba instructor Alexandria brings the energy to her classes at Dance Attitude. Here, she teaches Zumba, a popular Latin-dance-inspired cardio class. Each dance routine is set to a fast-paced, international beat, and the party-like atmosphere that Alexandria creates in each session helps keeps students motivated.

Exercise is challenging, and people frequently give up on their fitness routines. How do you keep clients motivated?
The best way to keep people motivated is for them to see the results of their hard work!
What is the biggest mistake you see people make when trying to get fit on their own?
Mistakes in form lead to injury. It is very common for people to come to us with back, neck, and shoulder injuries resulting from diligent?but incorrect?home fitness routines. Even if you know the proper form, it isn't always easy to tell if you are implementing it correctly. For this reason, even the best instructors often have their own instructors to observe their form.
Besides working out, what else can clients do to spend their time at your facility?
We offer massage, as well as workshops related to health and wellness.
Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?
We pride ourselves on having a strong community atmosphere.
Five days a week, the Hot Yogoddess studio fills with two sorts of radiance. The first is heat?specifically, infrared heat, which serves to elevate heart rates and loosen up muscles during the studio?s women-only classes. The second is the radiance pouring from the students themselves, who support and motivate one another as they flow through Vinyasa poses or pose in the more static, balanced stances of Hot Goddess 26. Beyond the traditional yoga classes, Hot Yogoddess?s yoga ballet barre class combines yoga and barre techniques into a unique hybrid. While balancing with the help of the mat, the wall-mounted barre, or the pigtails on the person in front of them, pupils elongate their limbs and tighten their cores during a challenging workout. Regardless of the class, each session is suitable for both experienced and beginner yogis and set to a calming soundtrack of quiet music.
