The team members at Soldierfit are just like anyone else?dads and moms, sons and daughters, neighbors and friends. Where they set themselves apart, though, is at the gym. At Soldierfit, this tight-knit group carves out a community of likeminded folks who pursue both the physical and intangible benefits of fitness. Confidence, camaraderie, and character are all natural byproducts of Soldierfit classes, which are heavily rooted in intense military-style workouts. During sessions, exercisers must overcome any number of challenges, from drills and calisthenics to body weight exercises and weight training.
It was only after earning the titles of college football player, semipro football player, and body builder that Emmett Burns added certified personal trainer. With more than 20 years of experience behind him, he works with a licensed dietician to help his clients achieve their fitness goals. Using positive reinforcement and a focus on core strength, he aims to keep them having fun.
Fit Body Boot Camp's 60-minute classes melt away the brain's useless boredom centers while facilitating speedy fitness results. Experienced instructors lead the group in a variety of ornery body challenges such as light running, resistance training, obstacle courses, core work, and team training exercises. Classes convene in a large, open studio that features big windows and a full array of fitness-attracting equipment, including jump ropes, free weights, and glowing bicep-whistles. Campers are encouraged to come to five days a week; the classes are offered Monday through Friday at 5:30 a.m., 6:45 a.m., 9:15 a.m., 12:15 p.m. (30-minute class), 5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m., and 7:30 p.m., and on Saturday mornings at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. For less extreme participants, thrice-weekly attendance may also yield a sizeable crop of results. Nutritional coaching is included in the program to improve at-home habits. Since Fit Body is an ongoing program, students can join classes at any time and at any personal fitness level. Bring a water bottle and reserve a spot ahead of time, as class sizes are limited to avoid overcrowding and back-to-chest sweat terrors.
Taught by certified, professional instructors, classes at Divine Body Fitness provoke spirited exertion from students of all fitness levels to build strength, improve cardio fitness, and drop extra pounds. Most classes run two to three times per week (check the schedule here), and Groupon customers can mix and match any combination of classes they like. Latin rhythms fuel the upbeat Zumba sessions, and pugilists duke it out with flab in the high-intensity boxing classes. Boot-camp regimens vary each week to keep muscles on their toes, and sports-aerobics workouts provide all the health benefits of professional athletics without the baffling bonus structures. Fast-track weight loss and toning classes aim for quick results with 30-minute-interval training to help participants fit into wedding gowns or graduation overalls.
Certified fitness trainer Tony Osondu believes in his clients. He also believes in their ability to get into great shape and maintain it, even if they've never worked out before. At his intense boot camp sessions held in the lower level of Timonium's Interactive Fitness, he leads gymgoers of all skill levels through a focused and heart-pounding workout that blends strength training, cardio, and core work.
The goal is muscle confusion—making sure that the body doesn't get used to any particular movement—which helps prevent boredom. In any one session, boot campers might be pushing giant tractor wheels, racing each other, or jumping onto boxes to work on explosive power or an upcoming community theater role as King Kong. On top of his fitness work, Tony also offers personal training and nutritional coaching, which helps motivate and support his clients as they work towards their fitness goals.
