Showcased on Access Hollywood and the faces of various celebrities, Sylk Cosmetics’ highly pigmented gel can be smoothed over lips, cheeks, and eyelids. Makeup artists custom blend each concoction by hand in the studio, drawing on a buffet-like spread of colorful, all-natural powders to tailor hues to individual clients’ coloring. Visitors can also enhance their visages with long-lasting liner, moisturizing lipstick, and entire color palettes from the house brand—as well as creations from third parties such as Lilac Cosmetics and DeLa Cosmetics. The beautifying effects of their products are visible on the studio’s Wall of Glam, a photo collage of clients at real-world events next to a bunch of bricks slathered in lipstick.
Beneath damask-patterned walls and soft curtains, red poufs give guests a cushy surface on which to try on the shoes they’ve plucked from the swank store’s glossy, white shelves. In addition to housing a wide selection of shoes, which ranges from heel-free flats to pumps designed to lend wearers a competitive edge in slam-dunk contests, staffers fill the often-rotating inventory with trendy accoutrements such as jewels, cheetah prints, and handbags accented with grommets and charms. They also sling unique pieces of jewelry, including demure pearl earrings and spiked bracelets.
They host a ladies' night every month, inviting clients to peruse new styles while sampling crudités and other treats.
Armed with an array of skincare products from brands such as France Laure and Control Corrective, aesthetician Judy Anslow combats skincare issues with personalized facials. She categorizes the treatments based on clients' skin types so she can quickly and effectively treat conditions ranging from hyperpigmentation to acne and rosacea. Judy also uses Epillyss lukewarm wax to remove unwanted patches of hair without burning skin. Because of Face 2 Face Skin Care's location inside Tete e Tete Salon, clients can conveniently pair their rejuvenated complexion with a new haircut or manicure.
While working at other peoples' salons, Shelly Spann yearned for something of her own. "I wanted to get my name out there," she says. One day, while watching reality TV, Shelly was struck by an idea. All of the shows were "centered around women and hanging out together, so I thought, 'Oh my God, how awesome would it be if we did that?'" Shelly masterminded a business that beautifies brows on location at get-togethers as partygoers sip champagne and wine. "It takes a little bit of the edge off of waxing," she says with a laugh.
Now Shelly divides her hours between mobile services and time at her full-body-waxing headquarters. She uses Nufree Nudesse, a sugar-free wax alternative that removes hair with less pain, irritation, and grumbling from cranky candles. Clients can also request numbing creams to keep procedures even less uncomfortable.
Waxing and brow sculpting aren?t Shelly?s only specialties, though. The fully licensed aesthetician also beautifies her clients? complexions with a selection of exfoliating and hydrating facials. Her treatments range from mini and teen versions of her signature facial to custom European facials that take their cues from individual skin types.
As a therapist, Kelly was never content to settle on one craft. After graduating from the Baltimore School of Massage in 2000, she began practicing as a certified massage therapist. Soon, she also delved into detoxification and weight loss, became a licensed aesthetician and makeup artist, and trained in holistic techniques such as reflexology, chakra balancing, and energy work.
Today, Kelly follows her passion for making others feel beautiful inside the private rooms of her quiet Pikesville spa. To cultivate a serene atmosphere, she surrounds her clients with candlelight, aromatherapy, and soft music. Her range of skin treatments can cleanse pores, repair sun damage and acne scars, and infuse faces with nourishing herbs or vitamin C. She also coaxes out skin's natural glow and strangers' spontaneous compliments with back facials, body polishes, and spray tans.
At love wellness center, clients find wealth of services designed to make them feel better from the inside out. In yoga classes, they can strengthen core muscles and meditation skills, while massage sessions help them release tension let go of stress in a more traditional way. And, once inner peace has been achieved, customers can then focus on outer beauty with a menu of waxing services and rejuvenating facials.
