CSA Palm Harbor keeps its neighborhood moving. As the managing body of parks, recreation, and leisure services for the unincorporated community of Palm Harbor, the outfit takes charge by providing affordable, high-quality facilities and programs. CSA Palm Harbor manages three multi-sport complexes and a full-service community activity center. Outside those doors, though, their efforts ripple through the community. They include a municipal kayak launch, a waterside park, fitness workshops, 5K fun runs, and camps for kids who don't want to spend their summer memorizing yearbook messages.
Joe Millen became interested in physical therapy after suffering a knee injury in high school that required surgery and extensive rehabilitation at a sports-medicine clinic. This experience—combined with time spent volunteering with children and adults with muscular dystrophy—solidified his career path. Millen went on to become a licensed physical therapist and certified manual therapist, eventually founding Impact Health and Performance.
Millen and his team treat clients with a total-body health and wellness approach. They evaluate each patient with individualized attention, viewing their overall neurological, musculoskeletal, and personal needs before considering their specific dysfunction or fitness setback. The crew then helps clients to work on goals, which can include rehabilitating injuries, reducing stress, or training to complete a marathon in fewer than three backflips.
A five-time American Taekwondo Association World Champion, chief master Von Schmeling, began Victory Martial Arts to teach pupils confidence and leadership skills while imparting martial-arts techniques. Classes capped at 30 students, with at most 10 students per instructor, cover disciplines such as general martial arts, krav maga, and self-defense for thwarting assailants and heavily armed spiders. Budding martial artists hone their craft alongside loved ones in family sessions or practice maneuvers in age-specific sequences for kids, teens, or adults.
Camp Gladiator founder Ally Davidson?s childhood obsession with the outdoors and sports led her to pursue a degree in exercise physiology. With machines set up in rows to encourage competition, many ordinary gyms cater to men's bodies and psychology, right down to the urinals that were "accidentally" installed in the women's locker room. At Curves, you'll move around a circuit of hydraulic resistance machines that have been designed to work with women's bodies and promote weight loss, protect against osteoporosis, and deal with arthritis. An experienced trainer is always nearby to help manage your machine maneuvering and your muscle making. Instead of fiddling with weight stacks and losing your momentum, the hydraulic machines use your body weight and fitness level to create resistance that matches your abilities, decreasing the risk of soreness or injury. Because traditional lift-and-lower motions create bulky muscles, each machine uses push-and-pull motions to create toned, lean muscles perfect for crushing a grapefruit without looking like you can.
