Bindu guides yogis of all levels through daily classes that strengthen and restore bodies and calm bustling brains. Bindu specializes in Vinyasa yoga, a practice that streams muscle and breath movement into one continuous flow. During Divine Play Vinyasa sessions, disciplined contractions, extensions, and alignments awaken life-force energy and the ability to channel soft-serve through ordinary drinking fountains. Vinyasa concludes in the relaxation pose shavasana, known less poetically as corpse pose, wherein yogis simulate the proud posture of dead presidents. Bindu's eight yoga masters also lead therapeutic Viniyoga and athletic Ashtanga classes that align and restore wayward muscles to their rightful places. Sessions range from 60–90 minutes.
On the "Our Story" page of Twin Power Yoga's website, owners Ann and Ali express their belief that "by sharing yoga, we share ourselves." They know something about sharing—they're twins, after all, which they believe connects them spiritually as much as it does physically. At their West Palm Beach location, these siblings and their fellow instructors help participants of all experience levels explore their own physical and spiritual relationships to the world around them through Twin Power's style of power yoga. In heated studios with colorful walls and hardwood floors, instructors lead postural sequences that build both strength and cardio conditioning. Between flows, they emphasize meditation, helping practitioners let go of the competitive demands of daily life and pet beagles they already regret teaching to talk. This alternation between highly physical postures and awareness of breath encourages students to listen to their bodies. Classes always end in meditation, giving participants time to sit with whatever feelings their practice awakened.
Headed up by internationally experienced duo Todd and Tamara McLaughlin, Native Yoga Center hosts Vinyasa and Ashtanga yoga classes taught by certified teachers seven days a week. Classes range from the music-driven sequences of all-levels Improv/Flow to intermediate-advanced level Ashtanga, where students practice power yoga to attain the strength, energy, and balance needed to take down a cartel of acrobatic jewel thieves. Most classes last 1.5 hours, but Yogilates and Native Hour last an hour, and the traditional Mysore yoga session can last anywhere from 45–90 minutes. On Saturdays at 9 a.m., yogis wriggle into Loggerhead Park across the street for hour-long Beach Yoga sessions that make seals regret never evolving articulated limbs. Waggling two thick ropes tied to the wall. Kicking a punching bag. Stationary biking. The Institute of Human Performance’s circuit-training classes incorporate all these moves into a single workout, along with medicine-ball maneuvers, jump roping, hopscotch-like agility drills, and lively music that keeps the blood flowing. Voted the best core gym in the country by Men’s Health, the institute has also been honored by Glamour and Self for its hybrid-style classes, which incorporate elements of popular exercise styles such as Pilates and spinning. CEO Juan Carlos Santana and his team of certified trainers helm each class at the 7,200-square-foot facility, where indoor and outdoor workout spaces let patrons lift overcast skies by hand. The gym serves as a beta-testing site for fitness manufacturers, which means it has a fleet of cutting-edge, constantly updated machines.
Inspired by the design of an Indian temple—replete with vibrant fabrics dangling from the ceiling—Anuttara Yoga had no trouble catching the attention of New Times Broward-Palm Beach, which hailed it as the Best Yoga Studio of 2012. The space recently underwent an expansion to encompass nearly 8,000 square feet, including two 1,600-square-foot yoga rooms.
The Kula Room, with its spacious floor plan and minimal decor, stays at a balmy 85 degrees during nonheated classes such as yoga barre. The dimly lit Grand Tapas Hall, however, facilitates deeper stretching with a thermostat set to a sweat-inducing 95 degrees. This higher temperature loosens muscles, expels toxins, and thaws ancestors preserved in ice during 90-minute hot-yoga classes. New class offerings, to go along with the studio's recent expansion, include suspension yoga and chakra spinning.
When they aren’t teaching yoga classes, the studio’s 15 certified instructors pass on their knowledge to apprentices in training rooms and a well-stocked library. Other amenities include spa-like bathrooms with showers and a boutique area lined with yoga accessories and apparel.
The Bombay Room's experienced and passionate instructors foster confident breathing and bending as they explain each movement and posture in an intimate class setting. Stretching, breathing, postures, and meditation join forces to form an exercise supergroup that combats stress and pain lurking in the dark corners of body and soul. Gentle, Vinyasa, Hatha, and midday and morning flow classes inhabit the studio's class schedule, which makes yoga more accessible to busy mat masters by offering instruction seven days per week, mostly in the early afternoon and evening. Arrive 10 to 15 minutes before class to sign in, get centered, and clear your head of catchy but off-color limericks.
