Clare Gales has two loves—dance and fitness. The devoted dancer and expert trainer opened Studio 82 in 1986, where she combined her two passions by hosting both fitness and dance classes on the studio's expansive hardwood floors. Today, Clare and her staff of professional dancers and fitness professionals continue to lead students of all ages in more than 100 different classes that range from ballet to cardio kickboxing.

An abundance of internationally renowned dancers and top instructors have passed through the studio's doors over the course of its 26 years, guiding youngsters and adults alike through the footwork and form of styles such as ballet, jazz, and hip-hop. Certified fitness instructors conduct a variety of energetic classes, interspersing a schedule of high-intensity cardio classes with strength-training workouts and rejuvenating yoga and Pilates sessions. The studio's diverse range of classes attracts an equally diverse group of clients that includes aspiring dancers, fitness seekers, and future brides preparing for the wedding dance or bulking up for the ceremonial arm-wrestling match against the groom’s mother.

At Crooked River CrossFit, they join two other certified coaches in teaching functional, constantly varied CrossFit classes. The classes begin with aerobic activity and instruction to proper form, and then students take off on a high-intensity workout that may include lifting heavy objects and moving large loads.

For CrossFit Medina’s owner and coach Jim Cartwright, CrossFit is about more than a successful workout that doesn’t get boring—it’s also about the community. When FOX8 visited CrossFit Medina, they stumbled into an electric atmosphere that showed groups of athletes working together to accomplish their goals, much like a group of ants would work together to bench-press a tomato.

CrossFit students submit themselves to the Workout of the Day (WOD), a constantly changing workout that can be as short as 2 minutes or as long as 35 minutes. The programs blend principles of fitness disciplines such as strength training, cardio training, and gymnastics, forming routines that are anything but routine. Though the moves vary, students might be expected to row on the rowing machine, perform Olympic-style weight lifts, and execute conditioning exercises such as box jumps, pull-ups, and dips among others. All the while, CrossFit Medina’s trainers encircle the class, lending tips and giving individual attention to students when necessary.
