Cofounder Tina Mui-Wong boasts a passion for the beauty industry that spurred her to earn a cosmetology license before completing high school and establish a pair of spas that have thrived for more than 25 years. In a 2010 interview with Pasadena Magazine, Mui-Wong admits to being a "product freak," which is reflected in her role as developer of Amadeus's signature line, T.E.A. The staff and salon has appeared in the film Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde, graced television screens on ABC's Extreme Makeover, and exhibited their handiwork on the Rose Bowl queen and her court of chrysanthemum noblesse for two decades.
Amadeus takes pride in its custom massages, and re-trains every nail technician in-house to ensure updated mastery of the hand jive. Guests receive slippers, robes, and complimentary skin consultations upon request, and may pad down the scented hallways after their treatment to decompress in a eucalyptus steam room.
Master stylist Fredy Arboleda trained in London and Paris before opening his first salon, Ravissant, which served its clientele for more than 20 years. During that time, Fredy was inspired to create a salon in Pasadena that would provide his customers with a truly luxurious experience. To that end he was very purposeful when choosing the interior design of The Beauty Lounge, looking to capture a peaceful and modern vibe that would conjure up an oasis-like atmosphere.
The services the Lounge provides, which range from cuts and colors to manicures and full-body waxing, are all supervised by Fredy. Guests can also get pampered with multivitamin skin treatments, acne facials, and glycolic treatments that can be enhanced with seaweed masks, paraffin hand dips, or ginseng treatments. All these treatments are designed to help clients completely unwind, like a ball of yarn in the hands of a particularly industrious kitten.
The Factory Studio is the end result of the high-flung aspirations shared by two eccentric salon veterans. Every day, stylist and musician Alfonso Afanador teams up with makeup artist and singer Nina Lares Fetter to lead a team of industry experts in the quest for aesthetic excellence. Team members combine their skill sets to perform hair services, makeup services, facials and peels, and waxing sessions. They also supercharge the salon by hosting occasional art exhibitions and allowing the resident DJ to soundtrack haircutting sessions with songs that encourage toe tapping, rather than head bobbing.

Along with cut and style services, hair can be enhanced by interwoven highlights, keratin treatments, or extensions adhered to hairlines via peer pressure. Stylists can also makeover faces with the salon's lineup of Brow Bar treatments, which can enhance lashes and brows or instruct patrons in the art of proper makeup application.:m]]
Though Salon Xia exists within a century-old cottage, its interior is nowhere near outdated. And that?s because owner Mark Mayner decided to keep the space airy, bright, and clean through the use of stained wooden accents and large, sun-soaked windows. Such contemporary touches wrap around the salon space, where stylists can often be found coloring and highlighting hair with high-end products including Aveda Full Spectrum and Redken Color Fusion dyes. The stylists also reach for Unite haircare products as they create new 'dos that are further informed by ongoing teachings from the Toni and Guy Academy.
At Cote d'Azur, don't be surprised if you get a mud wrap from a barefoot aesthetician. Being shoeless helps some of the staff members stay centered, and it reflects the spa's down-to-earth approach to healing. Similarly, many of the treatments draw from natural elements. Lemon and mint invigorate sore toes during the Tibetan foot soak, and Dead Sea salt nurtures the flow of positive energy during Salt Glow treatments. Many services draw from exotic and ancient modalities that focus on holistic wellness, from Thai bodywork to acupuncture treatments that are geared toward fostering spiritual balance.
