Stylist Christie Rawson spent years planning to open Studio C Hair Salon a Beauty Lounge. She picked out premium products, filled the space with modern furniture and airy colors, and gathered an experienced staff of stylists, manicurists, and aestheticians.
Today, her stylists cut, color, and style hair with L'Oréal Professionnel products as clients lounge in modern, white styling chairs in front of oversize oval mirrors. Staffers shampoo scalps in a row of sinks lined with plush armchairs—though Christie also prides herself on her dry-cutting, or freehand, skills. Aestheticians cleanse faces with Rhonda Allison cosmeceutical products and use glo mineral makeup to create rosy cheeks for weddings or smoky eyes for a coal miner's retirement party. White pendant lights illuminate the pristine nail bar, where patrons perch on stools as manicurists apply OPI polishes.
At RoxStar Fitness, the choreographer, performer, and Pilates guru Natasha Brown transforms dance routines into high-energy workouts where women can have fun while getting in shape. She pulls dance moves from many genres—rock, pop, hip-hop, swing, and more—and ties them together in RoxStar’s calorie-torching classes. Besides providing a good workout, Natasha shares dance tips that students can put to good use while busting moves at a wedding or in the background of a White House press briefing. Clients can supplement spirited dance classes with flexibility- and strength-building sessions of yoga and Pilates, as well as one-on-one personal-training programs.
Carl Sonder, MD is on a mission: to create beauty and happiness in a world often beset by strife. He has seen his fair share of the latter. After studying internal medicine at the prestigious Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Dr. Sonder served in the military as a general medical officer in Vietnam. His focus was on the treatment of severe burn injuries, and it was here that a lifelong passion for aesthetic medicine was born. After his military service, Dr. Sonder became board-certified in psychiatry and neurology, and practiced psychiatry and internal medicine in New York City for 25 years. Dr. Sonder then relocated to Arizona in 1999, and nurtured his interest in aesthetics with a series of courses and trainings in aesthetic technology and cosmetic procedures. He was recently elected to the American Academy of Hyperbaric Physicians after becoming certified in the use of the above-hospital-grade Khrunichev hyperbaric oxygen chamber.
Dr. Sonder now directs the team of doctors, nurses, and medical aestheticians at Regency Medical Spa. The clinical team combats signs of aging on the face with injectable fillers and Botox, and contours bodies with anti-cellulite mesotherapy sessions or LipoDissolve procedures. The reception area at the Phoenix facility boasts a large, reddish-brown painting that mirrors the rich red floors and accentuates the brown leather chairs. The Scottsdale site is also bedecked in soothing earth tones. Both locations offer a private concierge driver service to get clients home after treatments or acquaint extraterrestrials with local businesses.
