When The Yoga Underground's four passionate instructors aren't shopping for shoes, watching the sun rise while hiking up Mount Timp, or partaking in the great American pastime of wearing crazy socks, they're hitting the mat to teach students how to build physical strength and emotional wellness. Although they consider themselves students of the ancient practice of yoga, they aren't afraid to add some modern twists into the Ashtanga and Vinyasa yoga traditions, such as incorporating core-bolstering moves from Pilates and, according to instructor Brittany, playing "really awesome music." They offer an octet of lighthearted, yet challenging classes, which includes two fast-paced kick-asana classes, a primary series, and a lunchtime yoga session that accommodates working yogis on the go.
At the Quarry Golf Course, links lovers are treated to the rolling hills, manicured fairways, and native grasses of a course sculpted by nationally recognized designer Keith Foster. A one-year membership to The Player's Club (a $199 value) bestows discounts for standard course rates ($49 for morning rounds, $39 in the afternoon), as well as a waived course fee, preround range balls, and a golf cart that honks the secret recipe for Coca-Cola when driven backward. Club members will also save 15% on food and beverage items purchased from the Quarry restaurant as well as on pro-shop merchandise, and will be invited to demonstrate their superior walk-spoilage at The Quarry Player's Club Championship.
As a high-school-athletics coach that engaged in a wide variety of workout systems, Crossfit Cedar Ridge owner Doug Meacham found the CrossFit method was a natural fit. Instead of engaging in numerous exercise routines to meet optimal results, he could obtain the same results with the ever-changing and intense daily workouts of CrossFit. It’s a system that uses functional movements, training the body to be ready for all physical activities—from the athletic to the quotidian. He and his team of trainers teach the system in a group setting that fosters camaraderie as well as a sense of commitment to each other and their goals.
Body4Change’s fleet of experienced instructors helps guests to liquidize fat with boot camps and personal-training sessions, structuring all workouts around resistance training, cardiovascular exercise, and nutrition. During boot camps, the trainers provide a no-nonsense environment in which guests focus on a different set of muscles each day, rotating between legs, arms, and second sets of arms to avoid body burnout and muscle ennui. They'll also customize workout stratagems in personal-training sessions that equip exercisers with moves tailored to individual goals and abilities.
Andrea Rogers combined dance and Pilates, her two greatest loves, to create a new genre of exercise, Xtend Barre. As a Pilates instructor, Andrea found that positioning her students upright allowed for a greater range of motion, and incorporating dance and cardiovascular moves boosted results. Eventually, she fused the two together and began teaching her new breed of exercise at Xtend Barre Provo. Her classes welcome all levels, offering a challenging workout without pushing participants too far outside their comfort zone.
