Solars Sports Clubs has fitness fanatics of all stripes covered, offering amenities that range from the parquet of the basketball court and the hardened evergreen of the tennis courts to rows of weight machines and the whirr of the smoothie bar. Group classes whip participants into shape, whether it's heart-pumping belly dancing or spin classes that encourage cyclists to workout without having to share the road with reckless turtles. Solaris also offers kids classes and summer camps, getting little ones off the couch and into action while honing their sports skills.

Barry Coleman studied the sciences of kinesis and indoor cycling separately, before deciding to combine the two into a single full-body form of exercise at Spinsational Fitness Studio. Beyond the gym's green awnings stand rooms packed from wall to wall with stationary bikes, ready to bear riders on a journey to better fitness. Some rooms remain conspicuously empty of the equipment, more frequently used for Bokwa and jump rope classes. Barry fuels each form of exercise with complimentary waters and fresh pieces of fruit for all his students.

Barry's classes don't just lead to better health for his clients, though. He gives back to the community by hosting events like the Briarcliff Cancer Spinathon, organized by 13-year-old Jordana Cohen to replace the Pediatric Cancer Club's cancelled annual bike-a-thon to raise money for cancer research.

Intense music lulls fitness-seekers into "the zone" as they pedal furiously in the low-lit workout room at Rev Ryder. As they cycle for 55 full minutes, they burn calories and get their hearts racing for a better cardio workout than watching the scary parts of The Exorcist over and over again.

Ride Revolution's method for blasting calories and chiseling muscles into the body involves shocking the system and keeping muscles guessing at what level of strenuousness is coming next. Cycling-class participants have to push through terrain that varies from steep inclines to flat sprints, motivated only by the instructor's encouragement, the class's upbeat music, and the fistfuls of pennies promised upon completion.

In the dark, cool cycling room, exercisers atop top-of-the-line Schwinn bikes keep their legs pumping in a variety of classes, including a 45-minute midday ride, a 60-minute standard cycle session, and even a charity ride. Unlike traditional gyms, which can't focus all their energy on cycling, Ride Revolution is a cycling-only studio, which means it features such amenities as stadium-style seating, atmospheric lighting, and the cutting-edge Performance IQ heart-rate-monitoring system.

One can look behind every stationary bike or beneath each treadmill, and never come across a man at American Woman Fitness Center. They will, however, find a swimming pool, rows of cardio machines, and a studio that hosts more than 50 fitness classes. Because the health club only admits women at its two locations, gals can feel more comfortable and confident as they break a sweat on elliptical machines and weight-training equipment.

The all-female staff leads a slew of group fitness classes, including CrossFit, Corebar training, Zumba, and yoga classes, some of which take place in the swimming pool and can result in highly desirable dolphin abs. In addition to classes, they offer personal-training sessions along with weight-loss and nutritional counseling tailored to female physiques. Clients can also monitor their children in the childcare area via TV screens while they work out in cardio or group fitness areas.

With a long-standing commitment to the health and well-being of girls, women, and their families, YWCA Bergen County and its fitness classes help strengthen the mind and body, in a safe, supportive, and fun environment. The history of the organization is rich with groundbreaking programs to bolster race relations, achieve women's empowerment, support social-justice issues, and promote children's health by providing access to physical activity. Other fitness initiatives take place in the YWCA's gyms, where instructors put to use training in Zumba, yoga, and other disciplines. Employees further the organization's vision with dedication to school-age programs, child-care, and other health and fitness efforts in our community.
