After 20 years of successfully frightening fear fans, The Haunted Hydro is back for another season of shudders with more than 50 actors, multiple attractions, and an “Evil Inferno” theme. With a Monster Bash ticket, guests begin their journey by entering the 20-foot Tunnel of Terror leading to Hydro’s cursed chambers. Inside, realistically made-up monsters and mutants make screams scream in horror and force flesh to sprout goose feathers. Visitors can also venture into the brand-new Lair of Scare, a dark cavern of undeath where each turn is as futile as the one before it. A free paintball ticket gives brave citizens the chance to hunt the zombies that lurk in Paintball Alley, and a free soft drink soothes sore throats resulting from too much shrieking, screeching, and light- bulb eating.

Since its founding in 1998, the Northwest Ohio Railroad Preservation, Inc. has been dedicated to preserving, and educating others about, the rich history of the railroad in Northwest Ohio. The center's sprawling gift shop and museum, which features two model-train layouts, explore the role of trains in American life in the past and the present. Outside, quarter-scale deisel and steam trains chug across a field crossed with railroad tracks with dozens of gleeful passengers in tow. As part of its celebration of all things railroad, Northwest Ohio Railroad Preservation, Inc. also curates seasonal events, such as train rides brimming with holiday festivities.

The University of Michigan Museum of Natural History showcases a wealth of knowledge about the living world with focus on anthropology, zoology, and paleontology. On the Museum's second floor, the hall of evolution houses fossils and dioramas of dinosaurs, prehistoric whales, and mastodons. On the third and fourth floors, a wildlife gallery explores Michigan's native flora and fauna through taxidermy mounts and habitat scenes, anthropology displays feature archeological finds from around the world, and geology exhibits highlight colorful amethyst clusters and sparkling pyrite crystals. The butterfly garden provides a living example of the natural world. Its 55 herbaceous perennials—including goldenrod, black-eyed Susan and spicebush—attract butterflies through all four of their life stages, from egg to caterpillar to chrysalis to fully grown winged beauties.

Extending its reach beyond the galaxy, the Museum's recently renovated planetarium projects the night sky on a dome. Sitting under the curved screen, visitors can travel to the most distant reaches of the universe. As part of its efforts to get families involved in hands-on learning, the Museum also runs weekend demonstrations, leads dinosaur tours, and partners with local libraries for its family reading and science program.
