BJ's New World Seafood transforms treasures from the ocean into platters of succulent fresh, steamed and fried seafood. Chefs fry fare such as tilapia ($4.99), flounder ($5.99), or crab cakes ($5) until they achieve a crispy golden brown ideal for hiding "I Heart Anemones" tattoos the aquatic inhabitants got as adolescents. Savory swimmers can reel in fresh fair such as alaskan salmon and red snapper, or mix and mingle on steamed combo platters, where a snow crab leg and 12 large shrimp share plate space with sides of broccoli, potatoes, and corn ($15.99). For lighter appetites, BJ's also steams oceanic offerings such as dungeness crab legs ($25) or mussels, which are sheathed in rich swaths of butter, garlic, and crushed velvet ($7.99/lb.).

Certified personal trainer Denae Parks sees no advantage in showing up at the gym and not knowing what to do. In fact, her raw, no-frills approach to getting in shape omits the gym entirely and instead encourages students through outdoor workouts that use the body’s own weight for resistance. Armed with only an exercise mat and a bottle of water, students interact with their environment as they perform burpees, run stairs, and jog tracks. And since Denae tailors workouts to clients’ varying levels of fitness, beginners and advanced students can complete sets side by side.
Children with parents in tow come in droves to squeal with delight at the amazingly expansive Please Touch Museum, housed in the soaring Memorial Hall that was built in 1876 for the Centennial Exhibition. The hands-on play areas are clever, cute and decidedly age-appropriate. On the main floor, kids can bang on musical instruments in a rainforest-themed space, race sailboats in rivers (splash aprons provided!), build and launch foam rockets or pretend to drive a bus. The lower floor features an Alice in Wonderland-themed area, complete with distortion mirrors and mazes, plus a foam-block construction zone, a tiny grocery store and a little hospital. A few areas are set aside for toddlers three and younger, and an extra three dollars at the entrance buys a ticket to ride the more than century-old restored carousel.
The eight instructors at Bikram Yoga University City lead students in the hot-yoga style during their 30 weekly classes. During each 90-minute class, they guide students of all ages and skill levels through Bikram's series of 26 poses and two breathing exercises while cranking up the heat to a steamy 105 degrees with 40% humidity. In addition to increasing oxygen uptake in the lungs, the heat loosens sinews and joints for safer, deeper stretching and expelling toxins through sweat. According to Philadelphia magazine, the studio also offers a work-study program, which allows students to take yoga classes in exchange for doing chores, such as washing floors and mirrors or steam cleaning carpets and the instructors.
Built on the top of the building's original roof, the new 5,000-square-foot facility features locker rooms with showers, cubbies, and changing spaces, as well as a spacious yoga studio equipped with antibacterial and antimicrobial carpeting.
