With intimate knowledge of Pennsylvania's waterways and custom 20-foot fishing boats, the local guides at Pocono Fishing Adventures teach groups and individuals the art of tracking down prized bass, sunfish, perch, bluegill, and other fish. Along with years of experience on the state's oversize puddles, the guides utilize GPS tracking systems and depth finders to hone in on hungry line tuggers and avoid dangerous icebergs. Guests may use the team's supply of equipment while scanning the depths of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission's lakes, or they may also bring their own rods and tackle to borrow only the guides' keen sense of fish tracking. In addition to friendly charters, Pocono Fishing Adventures hosts corporate outings, allowing colleagues to test the alluring qualities of new marketing strategies with underwater PowerPoint presentations.
The Great Divide Campground lures campers out of their tents and cabins with diversions such as fishing in an onsite private lake, swimming in a heated long-course pool, and dethawing marshmallows over crackling fires. Each of the 270 campsites adds to the natural greenery of its surroundings with a fire ring and picnic table. The campground staff peddles ice and firewood and delivers it for free, unlike pack mules that always demand tips. A private lake hosts boating and paddleboating. Other amenities include everything from a basketball court and a game room to a laundry facility, restrooms with flush toilets, and free showers. A full calendar of events is available, as well.
Just far enough outside the city to feel like a true escape, Panther Lake Camping Resort sits on 160 scenic acres where families can hike, explore, camp, and splash around the picturesque 45-acre lake. Families can set up their getaway on tent and trailer campsites with water, electric, and cable-TV hookups. Throughout the season, a variety of events keep visitors entertained with everything from kids' arts and crafts to darts tournaments to movies in the park.
In the summer, Captain Don Cartwright migrates from Florida to New Jersey to captain fishing trips off Sandy Hook and Raritan Bays aboard his 35-foot boat, the Bill Chaser. Cartwright, who has a US Coast Guard master's license and more than 20 years of fishing experience, helps groups hook everything from striped bass and bluefish to larger catches such as bluefin tuna and shark.
Hiroshi Powell noticed he had a knack for weightlifting, so he swapped the weight machine in his mom's basement for a membership at a pro-level facility. There, Hiroshi began training with national powerlifting champions, learning the secrets of their technique while building friendships and cultivating his own carreers in powerlifting and bodybuilding.
The seriousness with which Hiroshi threw himself at his goals, and immersed himself in the fitness field, informs his approach as founder-owner of Chiseled Health and Fitness. "Chiseled," he says, "is not a social club or [a] cookie cutter commercial gym. Those are great for some folks, but not everyone." In place of the hundred-pound rubber chickens dead lifters find at other gyms, guests at Chiseled find a facility fully stocked with professional weight training and cardio essentials. Accented with red trim, the facility's white walls, black mats, and glossy hardwood floors offer a non-distracting environment in which Hiroshi and his three fellow personal trainers customize clients' workouts. Members also complete self-guided routines, and take CrossFit classes.
